A question for the teachers amongst us.

My daughter has had loads of time off school in the last year and is really struggling atm and it's very frustrating when I'm trying to help her and she's been taught one way and I've been taught another and we're trying to find some common ground, there is very little and I don't really want to confuse her so we end up leaving it.

But one thing I will say is that her teachers have been really really good with her, I can't fault them at all and they all say she is a joy to teach and that that fact more than anything else makes them want to help her more.

I hated school and school hated me and consequently I left education asap and never looked back.

I'm in a job now that I love and on a career path that I'm working towards with a passion so it's all turned out right in the end. :)

i feel for your daughter and you BMD, my sis was in the same situation having missed lots of school and it's really tough to catch up. chrissie's given you all the info there is out there really, though it might be worth asking on the ww.tes.co.uk message boards for more advice, people might be able to help you out there!

Best of luck to you both.

londonmanz: it's one thing to make a sweeping generalisation, it's quite another to do it repeatedly and on two seperate threads! Despite what you might think, we care deeply about our students and try extremely hard to get them through the most rigorously-tested curriculum in the world (which is a nightmare) whilst helping them grow and develop as individuals.

We're not in this job to make other people's lives worse, quite the opposite.
