A question about smoothies....

With my blender came a small grinder. I use it mainly for spices.

Its been through the dishwasher last night and ts clean and smell free to use with oats. They didnt take on any smell or flavour. I think a dedicated coffee grider would have too much imbeded favour?

Yes you're probably right.

I like the idea of oats to bulk it up a bit but I don't want to buy any more gadgets and unfortunately don't have a grinder. I doubt my blender would be powerful enough to pulverise it but I might give it a go :)

you dont need a grinder, any blender will easily blend a tbsp of oats (if my £4.50 one will blend 2 handfuls of oats then im sure yours will do a tablespoon)

2 peeled oranges
2 big slices of pineapple
1 frozen banana
1 slug of gran marnier
1 slug of rum

All whizzed up for an age until pale and fluffy. Pour into a tall glass over lots of ice. Drinking this now! Lush!

did you know that banana trees can 'walk' (according to some 'strage facts'-type article in a newspaper) and that bananas are 'false berries'?

I'm serious, apparently the tree's roots grow horizontally and can move (very slowly) towards better (soil?) conditions.

I'm sure you already know that pretty much all commercial banana trees are clones, but, have you ever seen inside a wild banana, cos I hadn't up until now:

Look at all them seeds! Gross!

Banana triffid trees. Thanks Herby.
Scary wild seeds. I wonder if a wild banana would be as sweet as a clone triffid type?

*cries* that sounds ace but I can't eat bananas :(

*smiles* perhaps could replace with coconut milk!!! :)

Just been talking about you on the phone Mrs M!

Obviously you weren't a mod type on a internet message board but rather a 'friend of my mothers'- But you arent the only one with a banana allergy!

A female friend's lips swell up! and apparently she goes very red and itchy in the face! Whats in a banana- what is it exactly that causes reactions?

I don't know what it is that causes it - I've never actually looked into it - probably should! It just started really suddenly - one minute I was fine eating bananas, the next, I wasn't. It's such a shame because bananas were the only fruit I've ever really been mad about.

For me, my stomach swells up and then I vomit every hour for about 12 hours which is extremely unpleasant :( It might not be an actual "allergy" - I've never been tested - buit I do have a pretty extreme reaction to them.

Avocados can sometimes give me quite severe indigestion and wooziness which feels like the onset of the banana thing so I wonder if it's something to do with the fat that's in them.
