A lot of shallots.

how do you pronounce shallot? with the emphasis on the first or the second syllable? I've always pronounced it one way, then heard a woman at the greengrocers pronouncing it t'other way the other day and had a horrid moment of self-doubt...

Yeah, fuckbuckets call them SHALLuts. Down with that sort of thing.

If you can't think of anything, pie, then I'll have them. I'll swap you for a fig. That went out of date on saturday.

I get suckered in by these tubs of veg for a quid that the grocer does and always end up with too many of one thing for not much money.

This week I seem to have bought a kilogram of shallots.

What can I do with such shallot of shallots?! :)

Any recipes or ideas?? I'm thinking mebbes chutney...or a pie

I'd be tempted to plant some of them now, to reap at least 4 times the amount for next July/August.

Shallots? Easy peasy. Use them instead of red onions in (thai)green curry. Though you might want to cut back on the chillies a little bit if you're not used to it.

But the easiest is slice 6-8 of 'em, stir-fry 'em in a red hot wok or balti then throw in a collander of some(washed) spinach, a liitle garlic, a pinch of salt, and a 'little'(half a teaspoon) of soy sauce with the same of oyster sauce.

Lovely stuff. I have it with 'Red-cooked beef with yellow turnip and rice.
