A Life with Less Dairy...

booja booja do an amzing dairy free ice cream too.

you can get a dairy free sour cream in holland and barratt. it's lovely. i can't tell the difference!

Oat milk is great, although my colleagues always refer to it as "that liquid porridge stuff".

Don't, however, be seduced by the notion that goat butter is a good thing. It smells of goats, tastes of goats and is altogether goaty in a way that is not good. (And this from someone who loves chevre....) And as for the idea of using goat butter for baking

Rice Dream, especially the vanilla one (which is unsweetened), is lush on cereal, but is rubbish in tea.

Soya milk is rubbish on cereal but fine in tea, although you have to use a bit more than you would if it came from a moo cow.

I agree with tp and mae, that it's best to alter your diet to other foods which don't require dairy to be replaced at all, rather than using fakes...

I don't do processed soya either - like story says, and she's pretty darn knowledgable, there's lots of dodgy stuff going on with eating too much processed soya filth. I certainly wouldn't be replacing dairy with soya like for like, if you're doing it for health reasons. There's quite a few good articles out there on why soya subsitutes are evil...

however, if you must use milk substitutes there are some non-soya alternatives which I quite like.

Almond milk (can be hard to find, but H&B sell it) is pretty good, although like the quinoa milk and all others of that brand, it's sweetened with agave syrup, which is a little sweet for my tastes. Not bad on cereal/muesli and good for a few other things. Similarly with Rice Dream, like it on cereal.

cheese-less pizza's are pretty  and not as dreadful as you might think.

I use tofu a lot too, the firm stuff in stir fries, salads and pasta (where you might have used some kind of cheese maybe?)

you can make pretty good creamy deserts with silken tofu - can use in place of double cream. I make frikkin lovely chocolate truffles with it.

oooh, and green and blacks dark chocolate is dairy free too..... mmmmm.....
