A- L! A- L- B!! A- L- B- E!!! R- T!!!!

Mr Mullen. I am probably the most socially promiscuous woman in South London and when I meet up with my friends and neighbours it is in the Albert, like as not. I live on an estate (not a country one) and I meet plenty of my neighbours in there and I'm well known for knocking about with pensioners and having a riotous time while nursing half a pint.

Yes. But there is a wide range of people of all ages and social backgrounds than say the Albert also since the new people took over the atmosphere is more laid back.
Really? So how many times have you been?

And have you any idea what's on tonight?

'Laid back' it ain't!

I think it is the case that the clientele of the Albert is, generally speaking, younger and more affluent than say the customers in the Beehive/Goose. The latter two pubs definitely more accurately reflect the diversity of Brixton than does the Albert.

Not sure if that makes it 'cunt of a pub' or not or that it even matters.

I've been in all three and would/will again.

Anyone know what was going on at the 'Bert last night. We were going to go there for a drink, but people were queuing out of the door so we ended up in the Lounge instead...

There was a kick ass live band night going on with a late bar.

It was great :)

pretty impressed with the refurb overall, although the men's toilets were in a right old state last night. no lock on the cubicle - after a couple of weeks? amazing - and the urinal was filled to big chill-style trough proportions. it was a great night and very busy, so i'm sure that didn't help, but would be nice if that was sorted out.

shame the shelf in the garden had to go. i liked the shelf

but in general...a success!

:)

I finally got to the Albert with Xanadu and alien nation at about 10pm, but there was already a one-in/one-out policy in operation on the door. We went to Harlem for a while instead before returning, but unfortunately there was still a massive queue (and we were rather knackered) so in the end we gave it a miss. :( Shame, as it sounded good...

The expression "cunt of a pub" for those not in the know is West of Scotland Vernacular for a pub which isn't particularly good.

With regard to my opinions about the Albert and The Goose are based on encounterswith unpleasant characters in those establishments who fit the descriptions outlined earlier.

If you must know my favourite pubs are the priory arms, the surprise, the landor the trinity and the beehive. I also like a number of pubs outside Brixton including the Market Porter, the Royal Oak, The Tabard, The Magpie & Crown & the Wenlock Arms all of which have a better choice of ales from independent micro brewers than the Albert.

I ended up in the Trinity last Friday as me and Fenian couldnt get into the Albert due to it being full :( .Havent been in the Trinity for a while.I felt out of place there.Still seems full of the Rugby/Cricket crowd etc to me.

I wouldnt say the Albert is full of little rich kids myself.Managed to get into Albert late (thanks to IS)and it was the mixed crowd of people I expect there.Not-thank god-going on about mortages.

I think the Albert is better now its been refitted. The decking at the back is an improvement.I was wrong about the front decking-its seems to have worked out and keeps the dealers away.

The thing people dont realise about the PA is that people drink in there at different times. The afternoons and evenings attract different people.

No they dont. What about the Satay Gallery?Does that reflect the "diversity" of Brixton?

I don't like being turned away from my local because it's full. Not convinced the refurb was for the best at all. Is this live music thing going to be a regular occurance?

Need a new local! Think maybe the Hob, although someone told me they're going to be refurbing that too.

Absolutely true. Weekend evenings is a younger affluent crowd.

i'm sure that you would prefer to pack people in until it's dangerous:rolleyes:
i think pat is going to try to do a gig every month, with the money going to charity.i think that anyone who has been to any of the last few gigs will have had a great night.and as for going to the hob at least you won't have any trouble getting in,every time i've been lately it's been empty.

Nope, I'd just prefer it remained a pub rather than a live music venue..[/QUOTEi hardly think that at most 1 gig a month means it's turning into a music venue,as there have always been music and poetry at the albert it's one of the things that gives the place it's charm.

Are you referring to the Priory? if that is the case in the last 31/2 years probably at least once or twice a week although I do drink all over London.

I don't think how many events a pub has is necessarily a measure of how good the pub is but they do have a quiz every Sunday and occasional free barbecues a German beer festival every October.

With reference to the atmosphere being laid back in the priory it was in reference to changes in management in the pub and not making a comparison with the Albert.

They also have Harveys Bitter in the Priory as a "house" bitter.

The Priory is for posh ponces. The beer costs about 3.60 a pint for a start, and it's a gastropub.

Yuppie ponce Mullen we'll call you from now on, I reckon.

You claimed that "since the new people took over the atmosphere is more laid back" in the Albert (I assumed), so I wondered how many times you'd actually been since then to make that judgement.

When were you last in there and what did they charge you £3.60 for its not a gastropub as the emphasis is on beer rather than food. Are you sure your not getting confused with the Royal Oak.

Call me Yuppie Ponce Mullen and I'll Skite the hair aff ye.
