A job not in an office - any ideas urban?

Difficult to say really.. minor level academia.. ?

I can really think of no person better suited to loafing around some faculty canteen complaining about how their research works is/isn'tcoming on, the disappointment of a recent seminar or lamenting the injustice of having to supervise some poor student in afew hours time.

Go for it!!!

:)

There are crash courses believe it or not
I believe it. I just don't believe they would be effective enough. I guess employers are desperate.

Bricklaying is also a well-payed construction job that is much harder than it looks and takes ages to learn.

Take a six-month course in plastering - bosh bosh bosh loadsamoney
Not a bad suggestion but somehow it sounds really really dull. I mean, you're doing one thing all day every day. Just staring at a wall and smoothing it. Perhaps it would help my zen technique but eventually I reckon it would drive me crazy.

Audio visual installation engineers are thin on the ground.

depends how techy you are. also could you handle a building site? we start on those and end up in nice finished places.

There's an employment agency near the Elephant that do unskilled manual jobs. I got to do all sorts of exciting things - kitchen assistant, cleaner, canteen worker at TSB. You could sign up there and see if you happen into your dream job. :)

I still think lighthouse keeper would be ace. We could come 'round' (geddit?! ) to your gaff for book group

Ok, lets work this out:

No bulding sites or construction related vocations
No climbing stuff or using potentially hazardous tools
Must pay well
Nothing too beueaucratic
Nothing working with the lame or otherwise sad of lot

Hmmm...thought of becoming a writer who lives in the South of France so can sit outside all year round?

It's working with people though. I guess you could wave at all those ships in that busy shipping lane known as the Westway :D
Is it buggery :D That's why I always fancied doing it, cos it wasn't

Yes it is have a mate who is one has had several close calls and can tell tales of chainsaw accidents .And watching someone saw the branch off they were standing on  .

Squigee person. But with the twist that you give them a philosophical quip when asking for the cash. You could call yourself 'Niet Windows' (geddit?)

Yes, obviously. What kind of fool wouldn't have thought of it? Though I can think of better places than the south of France :)

No, but I've tried artexing and THAT was bad enough

It was just the way it came out - you sounded like a tradesman :D

My old man was, must be where I get it from :D

I trained to be a joiner when I left school, sometimes wish I'd kept it up - probably earn more than I do now and you can travel the world with a good trade.

God, not only is he fussier than a 5 year old vegetarian, he's also getting prissy at people's ideas. :p

Why would you do that? Why would you ever, ever ever inflict that on a ceiling?

*childhood scarred by artexed ceilings*
Living in council houses with fucked walls in my 20s made me do it

:(
