I really don't get this at all.. they were sanitised mid-80s pop.. :( Howard Jones was much better.

I brought an A-HA album for my very first girlfriend. I think she was about twelve and I would have been thirteen I think.

Happy memories. :o

Yes. His first couple of albums showed really good songwriting. The lyrics are still above average.

:)
I agree - 'What Is Love', 'Pearl In The Shell', 'Things Can Only Get Better' and 'Look Mama' were all tunes. Seriously. :)

He looked a right state though.

Lets not forget 'No One Is To Blame'

"You can look at the menu but you just can't eat
You can feel the cushions but you can't have a seat
You can dip your foot in the pool but you can't have a swim
You can feel the punishment but you can't commit the sin
And you want her and she wants you
We want everyone..blah, blah..

..see really quite good lyrics.. aswell as the tunes..

I can't believe that so many people (many of whom have quite good taste in music) are liking Aha. Is it some kind of wind-up?

So crap, they're not crap.

To be honest, I don't really remember any of the tunes ther than Take On Me.

see people are saying 'they're crap' and then admitting they don't know any of their songs!!!!

"Stay on these roads" was very significant for me.

My first GF... well, we were fully loved up, lost it together, etc etc. 19 and all my emotive buttons were being pushed at once, and I think hers were too.

We kept in touch.

A few years later this track, played on my car stereo as I trekked up and down motorways on my job, struck a huge chord. I, naively, clutched on to it.

We spoke from time to time. Once she came down to London with near zero notice. And we had a - err - great weekend, shall we say. A few years later, she was married. That was that.

"We shall meet again. I know."

15 years on, I stumbled across her. Kind of google stalking I spose, but in a harmless way. I emailed her, then we agreed to phone, she was divorced. Things clicked again very very quickly.

I'd love to give you the romantic ending, but there isn't one folks! It didn't work out. She's fab, I hope I'll never lose touch, but BF & GF... we tried enough times to prove it wouldn't work despite there being every pointer it should. But for a few months, "Stay on these Roads" took on almost prophetic status for me.

Hmmmm... well, that's my Aha! confessional done. I assume I can delete this in the morning, yeah? :)

Yeah, but I meant so kitschy - so quintessentially 80s - that they're excellent. I had "Take On Me" as the ringtone on my phone for a while. Now *that* was crap. ;)

I'm going to have to listen to some of their other songs...

You can edit your post, but now I've quoted it, it'll be there forever!

Bump!

anyone else want to admit to coming to see 'em at Shepherds Bush on Thursday?

Or is it just me?

(fears it's just me)ah well I'll have the place to myself.........

I read somewhere that A-ha! are playing free at HMV Oxford Street tonight at 6.00pm. May pop along to see if that's correct. An ex of mine shagged Morton when she was seventeen, or so she reckoned.

One of the most underrated Bond themes as well (mainly cos the film was bobbins!).

Great pop group.
