A fool and his money ....

gentlegreen

I hummus, therefore I am ...
Damn damn damn here we go again ...

25 quid Goodmans CD/MP3 player went on the blink after 2 years' faithful service.

Panic set in ... how could I possibly cycle to work without music ?

So brought forward plan to buy HiMD player/recorder - only Sony look set to drop the format ...

So order myself a 1GByte Creative Zen Nano Plus based on all the reviews ...

Sure it does everything it says on the tin - excellent sound quality etc (and it isn't a blinkin' "sunday supplement" Ipod ... astounding bit of 21st century technology ....

But it's much too small - mind bogglingly small - I may have to glue it to something or I'll lose it ! .. and I'm going to have to make myself an amplified electret microphone if I am to use it as a semi-useful sound recorder - which will be bigger than the thing itself.

I should have bought myself a replacement CD/Mp3 player for the time being and held out for a flash card recorder ....

Amazon won't accept opened returns unless faulty and I'll lose 25 quid on it if I sell it ... :( :(

job done ;)

lol :)

Thinking about it I may find a way of attaching it to my wallet - there'll be plenty of room once I've cut up my credit cards

I just got one of the 20gig ones and dropped it down two flights of stairs this morning (it's just too sleek!). :( Seems okay but it's been a reminder what a twat I can be.

had you buttered it? :(

(only one side, mind :))

You're the one that asked the recipe for the perfect cheese sandwich. I tell you and you just take the piss.

Can't you just hang it around your neck? I agree they're ridiculously tiny; my dad has one and I can barely work it.

It actually came with a landyard but it's not at all clear how you're supposed to attach it - I suspect I will end up making a customised wallet for it with "socket savers" and space for the custom microphone I'm going to have to make for it .....

Don't know how busy the traffic is where you live but I feel wary about cycling arond here (North London) while listening to my MP3 Player unless I'm off road.

Nah - different kettle of fish - my cycle route is distinctly suburban and I value my ears so it isn't so loud I'm in my own world - more of an Eric Satie "Gymnopédies" kind of thing where the music is complimented by the ambient sounds ;) .. [/pretentious]
I've had musical accompaniment twice daily for 17 years :D

I would have thought that cycling on any road with music playing in your ears could easily lead to an accident whereby you end up looking like Satie's "Three Pieces In The Shape of a Pear"

Is it okay for car drivers then?

Car drivers of course already are totally sealed off from reality - how often do you see anyone with the driver's window open ?
Ear-splitting stereo, air conditioning, mobile phones, driving as fast as possible all the time..

When I drive my car (slowly) I plug my MP3 player into the knackered old stereo - play it at a similarly modest level and drive with window and sunroof open - unless it's actually raining a lot :)

My mate used to ride his 750 Honda at 100 miles an hour with Nirvana on the earphones - now that is something I couldn't do - you need all your concentration to survive on a motorcycle.

Plodding along on a bicycle in suburbia is a different kettle of fish.
