A dangerous days work offered in SE London

TC, i'm surprised, not to mention disappointed in your new responsible personna. I would have thought this would at least have presented an opportunity to blow something up. :)

haha...and in the time it took me to post my previous message......

You don't really blow it up, well not in a suburban garden anyway, save that for parkland!

The sodium chlorate diffuses into the stump and makes it highly flammable, apply a match and off it goes. If the trunk is near fences though you would not do this.

:D:D:D

good to see some things never change.

Can we all come and watch? Well not 'all' exactly, just a select few.

Espesh if there is ging to be any blowing up of stuff.

I can bring sandwiches and Im First Aid qualified.

Yes I'd like to watch too

I have 999 on my speed dial in anticipation! :D

TopCat won't need a ladder :)

Well that seems sorted. Anyone else need trees trimming? I do garden clearance as well, I specialise in making good totally overgrown pieces of shit that are so often what people gaze out of their back windows at....:)

Ah! You're a Gigantor! :)

Will your derring-do now stretch to re-activating the Quaggy Voyage plans?

Its spring now! Come on!

I am rightly still a little scared, I think the plan has to be tweaked a bit before we set sail (as it were).
See Quaggy thread for details...

i do, but it's an oak, so i need to sort out council permission first..

Er unless you are in a conservation area you are allowed to do what you want with tree on your property. Even in a conservation area, if the tree is dea, dying or dangerous then you can again trim or indeed remove it totally.

really?

we were told by the tree surgeon that came round to have a look that we would have to write to the council first to make sure that there wasn't a tree preservation order.

in any case, its not dangerous, and we dont want the whole thing cut down - we just want to prune it as it is currently creeping across our property and over into next doors.

wrap enough det cord round it could put the tree trunk into orbit or at least throw the remains far enough that nobody can blame you:D.
cleared a road in and hour after the hurricane but the police would let us "help"
any more :D

there was a story about a tree surgeon got a chainsaw in the neck and died up a tree:(

I seem to remember my brother having a problem with a tree preservation thing now you come to mention it, hektik.

Yep, TPO would need LPA (local planning authority) consent. There are exemptions for dead/dying/dangerous, but if you were to be prosecuted, the onus would be on you to PROVE the tree came under DDD exemption.

You don't have to write to the Council/LPA - many will answer queries by phone as to whether a tree is protected (but won't give verbal consent to proposed works if the tree does turn out to be protected - that usually requires a written application). Some LPAs have this info on their websites.

Conservation Areas are much the same, but you can give six weeks notice of carrying out work to a tree within the CA (a Section 211 notice). This gives the LPA time to decide if they want to make a TPO; if you don't hear from them within 6 weeks then you can carry out the work

This is Firkys game isn't it ? I bet he'd love to do it.

No Firky does forestry, not arboriculture (he fells forests working from the ground, not climbing to prune amenity trees, or at least that's what he was doing last time we exchanged PMs on the subject). It'a subtle difference but a lot of forestry workers aren't certificated as climbers

What's so funny 'bout this pic that's making people laugh?? :hmm: :hmm:

The guy's roped in (OK, he's gone more than 45 degrees above his anchor point which is a bit naughty, can't see if he's got a secondary anchor point), he's got PPE, he's not cutting off the bit he's sitting on.... Cuts look quite good too, if he's doing a (slightly heavy) crown reduction, seems to conform to BS3998 OK.

I might even give him a job :D :D

If he slips the swing out could be the end of him, rope above yer head!

TPO's are recorded in the Local Land Charges Register which can be inspected at your Council offices.

Yes... me! I have an overgrown piece of shit - it is a small overgrown piece of shit with tricky access though.. in Brixton... but I have to do something about it soon before the weeds start growing over the upstair's neighbours windows...
