50 Gayest Records Of All Time

How nice for you.:) I entered my first 'gay venue' in 1975. One of the reasons that 'gay venues' were popular with a certain crowd back then, was that they tended to be really cutting edge in the music they played. Usually, at the end of the night, they'd play one of these camp classics that are on the list, just to give everyone a laugh.

Maybe YMCA is meaningful to British gays: who knows?:)

...you edited!

To this ageing queen, who has been on the gay scene for nearly three decades, many of the songs on the list define the kind of music I can't stand because I've been forced to listen to it so much in gay places, I'm absolutely sick of it. In a large city that has a more diverse gay scene I go to the gay places that play my kind of music (indie, punk, rock) but in more mainstream or provincial gay venues they still play nothing but Kylie, Gloria Gaynor and much, much worse.

Ummm (thinking what to add that hasn't already been suggested)... some more female icon stuff? A kylie track maybe? Madge?

[eta: eeek... this post crossed over with Reno. I suspect it won't go down well. :)]

Jesus: in the provinces, even the gays are provincial.:D

I suppose this place isn't provincial; the music back then was always hardcore dance music, such as you wouldn't hear at a straight club.

Plus, where else will the decor include a wall of black boots, and a toilet on the bar?

Yes Reno, I have.

Do you not see the clear as day allusions to homosexuality in any of the above pictures, or are you just determined to pin the gay=naff slur on someone?

I didn't see any - you just posted a load of covers which looked naff or camp. Ooh, he's wearing shorts he must be gay

He has a tache - he's definitely gay

You've been working for your present employer too long!

Trust me I know the signs!

They're about the gayest record covers this side of San Francisco, and you know it matey!

You haven't even heard the music - one of the bands on those covers looks like a Christian choir.
