4th test

Close of play - 4th Test - 1st Day

England 49-1 (Cook 20 not out, Bell 20 not out) in response to SA's 1st innings total of 194 all out. Great bowling performance from the bowlers. Strauss will be disappointed with the way he got out. Should be an interesting second day's play tommorow.

fucking hell, a couple of decent sessions and some people have us down as world beaters again.

My my the Harmison fan boys are out in force again. Some people have short memories.

Seen it all before I'm afraid, fully expect him to fuck up again in the winter. We'll see.

Enjoying the match, nowt on it though.

In fairness while he's been solid today I think a fair few people on here realise he's got to perform over the next tour or should be permanently dropped. If he does go then Sidebottom or Anderson will be left at home.

^ Yes that's correct, i was just saying it REMINDED me of that kind of form(can't you guys read properly?). Our bowling had the right feel to it rather than the endless hopelessness we've been used to.

I reckon Simon Jones has to be going on the next tour. Yes he is in division 2 but u still have to take wickets!

Dunno if strauss should be dropped, hopefully he'll come back better in the next tour after a break from test matches. Gotta remember were playing this off the back of two test series in a row v new zealand, am not surprised our players look tired..(too much cricket being played imo and our England team suffers as a result)

exactly right. An enjoyable day but nothing on it- so hard really to take it seriously.

Was good to see Harmison back to something approaching his best but the real test is whether he delivers over the winter. I hope he does, but must admit to nagging doubts. I really hope Jones comes back too, I kind of hoped he would be back for this test.

personally i hope for a long day of steady accumlation today, a massive fireworks display on Saturday morning from Flintoff, and then someone to emulate this man's heroics from 14 years ago- one of my best ever days at the cricket:

Remember it well - "you guys are history!" 9-57.

Could be just as crap as Harmison too, Big Dev.

Edit: Flashman posting.

Another 100 stand between KP and Colly as well.

100 for KP! Practically predestined. :D

They are the most productive partnership for England in the last three years. They average over 50 together and are quite a way ahead of anyone else I think.

They also act as good foils for the other. Colly to settle the exuberence of Pietersen, and KP to add brilliance and stroke-play.

Just checked the score....

Harmison still there on 49 not out* - his highest test score and Jimmy Anderson just got out for 13. 316-9 a vital partnership of 52 between Harmy and Jimmy. Monty is in to bat now.

I hope he gets a well deserved half century.
