3rd Test

and another. Jimmy Anderson. Carbon copy of first.

eta: He got McCullum. That's actually important.

Yup McCullum is a fantastic wicket keeper / batsman, I'm not sure he's a top 3 batsman

Not a bad day for Jimmy, nice knock earlier and he's taken thier best batsman early.

Just to think around this time yesterday it was looking very gloomy for England.

If Anderson could produce form like this more often, England would be sitting pretty. As it is, as far as I can see, he does it just enough so he can't be dropped, but not enough to transform him into a latter-day Glenn McGrath. Have to say, great bowling though.

If Jimmeh could be more consistent with his l&l and also learn his craft when it's not swinging i.e cutters and slower balls (like Hoggy) he really would be mustard.

It's all "ifs" with him though, he really is indefatigable in his inconsistency.

Anderson has been looking pretty positive actually, maybe it will be his day with the ball.......:hmm:

You heard it first here folks.....

Actually this is why Anderson is so frustraiting, with the right conditions and on his day he is virtually unplayable. Yet most of the time it's a fine mix of half volleys and long hops.

Should wait till 8 before considering it though. Only been done twice in the history of Test cricket ffs.

This is actually what I thought Frank would do today but he's not quite with it.

I wonder if the other bowlers consider bowling defensively in order to let him have a go at getting all 10.

Hope it doesn't rain tmrw, rain once again saves new zealand otherwise, mind you though they need to win this to level the series. Amazing how we've turned this match around.

Anderson is so infuriatingly random. It would serve him right if he got nine, then Monty bowled the last one just to ruin his life.

Why are the commentators already talking about an Anderson 10-fer? He only has five ffs.

Cos he's without doubt one of the world's best bowlers when he's with it and bloody rubbish when he's not. On he's day I truly believe he is more unplayable than pretty much anyone in the world. Problem is, he doesn't have enough days therefore remains an enigmatic 'issue' rather than being celebrated. He is very fast and can swing it both ways, find bounce and has in his spells of magic incredible control. If only he could be consistent.... I love Jimmy. :)

on a similar tack

Martin Saggers was on for a 10fer in a second X1 game this week - he had 9 for 62.... when it got abandoned, not because of the weather but because a 1st X1 game needed to be moved to the ground the second X1 were playing at. Poor old Martin Saggers!

Anderson certainly bowled well and did well with the bat i think collys going to have to get his head down in the second innings because the pressure is on

They were talking about this today on Sky. Their 'experts' reckon that he'd been over-coached by England in an attempt to change his action, and this messed him up with his natural bowling style and speed.

I'd like to see Monty get some revenge on NZ after that lousy umpire's decision yesterday though. I doubt if Anderson cares who gets the other wickets, as long as England wins.

They should stick Monty on at Bucknor's end if he's giving soft dismissals like that. I wouldn't have thought Hair would have given that dodgy dismissal yesterday.

Jimmy is still only 25. Here's hoping he's settled down from chucking it down as quick as he can and is learning more control....fingers crossed anyway. Sessions like yesterday's can only improve his confidence.
