O rly? We went clubbing most nights, and ate like gods for almost no money at all.

Nice one. Any tips? I have to say I've struggled with both in Venice, although there are a few nice lateish bars dotted around, and some nice places to eat around the Arsenale. I did make it to the centro sociale squat place a few years back, but managed to mess it up badly with drunken behaviour. It's a few years since I've been out in Venice, I do know my way around, can speak the language tolerably well, but have always left feeling a bit underentertained at night.

I agree that it's a great city in the winter. I wouldn't bother going in the summer tbh.

I can honestly say I loathed Venice. Beautiful buildings and all that, but lacking any kind of character - or rather it had the character sucked out of it.

Same, I hated Venice, I think it's the only place I've been that I would turn down a free trip to :( Barcelona is lovely tho, packed with lushness and exciting things plus romantic spots etc. I really liked Budapest as well, if you're open to other suggestions :)

Why the grin re: Stockholm?

Cos it's one of the best European city's by a long way. I love Barcelona but i've spent so long there that I'm perhaps a little jaded by it's charms after all these years.

Spain has much better places to visit for this type of trip - Seville being the obvious choice.
