I think I've made myself clear enough.

Oh really? :D Liquid lunch was it?

Self employed people. Are they entitled to a job for life? So fuck you and your quest for giving people a privilage with public money, earn't from the sweat of people you aren't fit the lick the boots of.

Self employed people are somewhat unlikely to decide that they're 'surplus' and then give themselves the sack. How does it work, some monday morning he hires goons to come in, tell him not to touch anything and get out?

Many's the morning I've handed myself a black bin-liner and told myself to be out of the building in 10 minutes :(

Self employed people will be painfully aware as soon as they are "surplus" because they won't be making any money, and will most likely have to go and find alternative employment. Straight away without any compensation.

Well then they should grow some fucking balls and form a union. That's a disgusting way to be treated.

So this thread has come back to life....

That reminds me, that email I sent to the RMT ...
anyone like to guess whether they had the courtesy to reply?

I'll reply now if you want - "teuchter, fuck off you tosser"

I think that just about covers it :)

Does it? Because if I am to go by the "biased media coverage" that presents the RMT as oafish thugs, then that is the kind of response that I would expect.

In actual fact, whatever view I tend to argue on here, I will generally agree that these tube strikes tend to be presented in a rather simplistic way in the mainstream media, and that they will play up the caricatures of the so called "dinosaur" unionists like Bob Crow. Therefore I tend to assume that things aren't in reality as they are presented.

But when I email the RMT with the questions that no-one here seems willing to answer, at the suggestion of several posters on this thread, my perfectly straightforward enquiry is ignored.

And now you, in response to the same straightforward question tell me to "fuck off" and call me a "tosser". If that was coming from an 18-year old kiddie then that would be one thing but in previous discussions you have presented yourself as someone with a serious interest in unionist politics (and apologies if I am incorrect, I may be confusing you with someone else, but didn't you say you were an RMT rep of some kind?) so that seems like an unreasonably aggressive response.

Is that the official RMT line on this, then? "Fuck off you tosser"?

"someone with a serious interest in unionist politics"

quite the reverse, in fact; though I am a serious trade unionist.

As the London Region Assistant Secretary of the RMT I suppose I could take the time to answer your points, but the problem is teuchter, old stick, that you haven't really accepted any of the prior arguments made by myself and others so the only response remaining is the unreasonably aggressive one.

Sorry, perhaps I should have said "trade unionist politics", in case anyone got confused about the kind of unionism we were talking about on this thread.

I'm not sure in what circumstances not "accepting" arguments justifies an aggressive response (although popular perhaps in the context of the other type of "unionist" politics on occasion, come to think of it), but your "fuck off" post was in response not to an argument but a simple request for information.
