28 May - Kingston Green Fair. Wot no thread?

We'll have to sort out a meeting point during the week, then (maybe at 4.30 to see the Green Rock River Band, if not before?)

Earlier earlier, we might as well get 'value for money' ;)

(and have more beer drinking tiome :D )

I'm off to Kent for the weekend this afternoon, but given that Monday's weather is looking to be a bit dodgy, I'll want to get back to London as early as practical ...

BBC 5-dayer for Kingston -- traditional May Bank Holiday wind (23mph Northerly!! ), showers, the odd bit of sunshine maybe ...

Wrap up, 14C in a North wind is not warm ... then drink beer so you don't care ....

better bloody improve a LOT for Cambridge the following weekend!

**This is your last weather report from me -- til Monday!**

You came onto this thread JUST to say that? Nice.

and the entertainment is proper shit most of the times....belly dancing hippies, with naked hairy men playing a flute.......no thanks, id rather sit on my own face.

In the politest possible way ....

.... not sure how else to put this ...

...bugger off and do something else somewhere else then? You'll clearly enjoy that a lot more!

(I'm not defending the worst excesses of hippy wibblism :o but there's always been a good deal more to the KGF than hippy-hating kneejerk sneerers are prepared to acknowledge)

Have a good weekend folks ... :)

I am intrigued to see where the extra money is going, if they're going to have a price hike they could at least have a brief excuse as to why. Saying that, most people I know always jump the fence anyway so I don’t know what they're complaining about (AoF and half eaten arm…. ;) Oh yes, and we tried the 'there's actually 20 of us in the band' line and they weren't having any of it. :D )

I guess the fact is, as others say, kingston and the surrounding area is quite affluent. The average kingston green fair attendee nowadays is not a cider swilling hippy but a middle class professional who wouldn't think much of spending £8 on an organic ciabatta let alone a nice afternoon spent in the park with additional 'green credentials'. Putting the entry price up a few quid isn't really going to bother them...

Agreed, probably lives in th e posh flats overlooking the park. Last time I was there was probably over 5 years ago (when I had long hair) and was approached by a woman asking if she could have her photo taken with a hippy!!

id jump over again but id be going with my girlfriend and wouldnt forgive my self if she got impaled on the spiky fence....im sure it was optional back in the day weather you wanted to pay or not...im being tight as im going out to a couple of festivals over the weekend and saving for glasto etc

yeah, im sure it used to be a donation... im sure if you argued long enough with whoever was on the gate they'd let you in anyway...

Plus getting there, which is a tenner?

Eight quid is put into stark contrast when you compare it to the Paradise Gardens (http://www.paradisegardens.org.uk) in Victoria Park this Sat and Sun which has The Beat and a whole host of acts and other stuff going on and that is totally free. So it can be shit and you cant really complain.

Beginning to wonder about any of this weekends' outdoor events given the weather, tho. I must admit, I wouldn't go to KG for the acts, but just the general atmosphere. If the 'hanging about on the riverside' is lost to rain, there's not a huge amount of point to it.

im too old to jump the fence these days ;) (...if you cant find me i will be in with st john's ambulance after breaking my ankle..)

oh and half eaten wotsit i bet that jacket would of cost more than 8 quid you bad man..

I was going to go to this for the first time, but the weather looks shit, in which case I'll probably go to the Windmill barbecue instead.

Sorry folks!

Completely wimped out of this for the first time in years, sorry!

The weather truly is appallling, and I only got back indoors at 1:30, having just come back from a very tiny hippy festival in Kent (erm, '999' people ;) ) at which it rained pretty much solidly from 3 am in the early hours of Sunday morning, to the point I left ... (thank heavens we had nice weather over Saturday afternoon and evening  )

Needed bath, clothes washing, tent airing time, and time (shortly :p ) in a warm pub ... :o
