28 Days Later was good.. 28 Weeks Later will be better

Cancelled out by Leonardo 'Norman Lamont' diCaprio.

I've pretty much forgiven DiCaprio for his past crimes based on his performance in 'The Departed' which I thought was brilliant, and nearly as good as Jack Nicholson.

DiCaprio Zombie Trivia: his production company lost a bidding war to the film rights of Max Brook's 2nd Zombie book - who won? Brad Pitt...

didn't mind the first one but was a bit pissed off they switched it from apocalyptic to cosy catastrophe. But then if it wasnt there couldnt be a sequel. So i dont know what i am monaing about...

Possibly seeing the squel tomorrow, keeping an open mind,. If nothing else it should be a fair bit of gory fun!

I don't think there is much that has to be forgiven. He's a good actor and has been ever since "What's Eating Gilbert Grape".

I harbour a lot of resentment from watching Titanic. 3 Hours of my life wasted. Now that was Shite.

28 Weeks Later seems more 'Aliens' like with a Isle of Dogs = Green Zone thing too. I'm gonna see it tonight. Haven't seen an 18 in the cinema for ages..

I don't think that was exactly DiCaprios fault, it's not like he wrote and directed Titanic. People don't seem to be able to get their head around the fact that he can be a good actor despite having starred in one corny Hollywood blockbuster.

He's been so-so when miscast (Gangs of New York) but more than not often he's been very good (Catch Me if You Can, The Aviator)

It seems almost impossible for films to get '18' certs nowadays.

Even the goriest, violent film ends up a '15', so this should be ultra gory.

And yet, This is England gets an 18 by those fucking idiots at the BBFC

A decent 18 is a rare treat these days, now I know 'This is England' is an 18 I will redouble my efforts to be arsed to go see it... But zombies (or infected) take precedence:D

I thought 28 Days Later was great for the first half and then it completely went down the toilet when they meet Christopher Eccleston. I'm looking forward to the sequel. It has gotten some good reviews, was made by a decent director and hopefully it will provide a better conclusion to the story than the first one did.

The original script was completely different for the second half. They dropped it for continuity reasons, but the copy i d/led had the alternative ending included as a narration with pictures.

Weirdly Westminster have reduced the classification to a 15 in their borough, so that kids can see that gangs aren't cool.

This is the same council that banned Crash despite a BBFC certificate

I loved the first half of 28 Days Later. I didn't hate the second half, but it was far more cliched and less interesting, IMO.

When i heard that the sequel was being released, i was quite looking forward to it. I'll probably still go and see it, but i've been reading a few reviews that don't make me too hopeful. Here is one from a local paper here in Baltimore, by a reviewer i often agree with. Without giving any of the plot away, i'll quote part of his opinion:
What you get instead is a by-the-numbers, cliché-filled scare fest that will give you plenty of reasons to jump out of your seat but very little reason to care about anything besides how human bodies will be obliterated next.

<snip>

It's just silly, to be frank. The whole story is, even though Fresnadillo presents it with such earnestness. It feels like it should be scary, you're given a few reasons to jump as a mixed bag of heroes attempt to escape the infestation, but it entirely lacks the nauseating mental terror that Boyle evoked.

Well, to be fair, Crash should have been banned for being absolute shite. :)

I thought it was great, one of Cronenbergs best films and one of the few adaptations of a well known novel that improved on the source.

I think i see the problem here.

I wasn't thinking of Cronenberg's Crash; i was thinking of Haggis's.

well, 28 Weeks Later was fucking great. Fuck all plot or character, but solid edge of the seat thrills for the duration. Just brilliant.

Glad you liked it. I'll check it out in the next week or so.

i mean, there's nothing clever about it, it's just dumb zombie fun, although there are some quite emotionally affecting moments.

it's the flip of 28 Days Later, which had - after the opening stages - fuck all thrills and lots of (bad) plot, but nothing you really cared about.

the stuff in this with the helicopter is AWESOME

28DL didn't scare me at all, but 29WL (not ML) was much more intense and gory. Fucking vile actually - people were shrieking all over the cinema and at the end everyone seemed to all laugh nervously as one, apart from the bloke behind me who just went.. "FUCKING hell... "

That one was never banned by Westminster Council though. ;)

:D I laughed my head off.

Thought that was massively entertaining. Ratcheted it up nicely. Shame about the last minute, really weak.

Lots of subtexts though? None very subtle admittedly, but then were the Night/Dawn/Day/Land of the Dead any cleverer really?
