2000ad

I tried that, converting pdf to zip. But it made a bit of a mess with all the graphic elements like the headers and such. I guess I'll just read them in pdf. No great loss I jsut would have preferred everything to be my format of choice.

Can you not just download the .cbz. Do some not come in that format? I thought some did for sure.

I enjoyed the leysers

Same. Although one or two fellow fans had canaries over it. It was't that big a deal & maybe Mills decided to add them in for a laugh or pressure to make the series a bit more sci-fi? Who knows...

Do remember being delighted and confused when Slaine first began, because it was very obviously set long, long before 2000AD & had always thought the comic was concerned with stories being set in the future (apart from Flesh which was mostly set in the past but with cowboys from the future).

Around about that time, when i was 11 or 12, I cut off all the front pages and pinned them to my bedroom walls. I thought it looked really cool.

Tharg was a right old tosser. The Future Shocks were ace, though. Lots written by Alan Moore. Went from Marvel to 2000AD and the Doctor Who Weekly/Monthly (also with Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons, Mike McMahon & a few others from 2000AD).

Remember being devestated when my prog didnt come into the newsagent for weeks, back in 78

it seemed like forever and was starved of the weekly thrill power. Never had quite the same feeling over the Marvel comics back then. Much as loved them. Didnt really get back into superheroes until Zenith came to the comic, and Moore's Watchmen for DC.

Not sure about this latest incarnation of Tyranny Rex in Indigo Prime, mind you I'm in two minds about IP in general. The first series of the return I liked but not sure how it is progressing.

Dredd finishing off a storyline well, Thistlebone is excellent and very apt at this moment in time, really glad Full Tilt Boogie is back (the cat is great). The Fall of Dreddworld is pretty meh for me, but 4 out of 5 is pretty good.

And new Proteus Vex starting soon

Some things I just skip over due to the art work and Dreddworld is one of them, Thistlebone has a similar style but it at least has colour to it.

Do you mean actual colour?
I don't mean to sound like a fuddy duddy but the whole thing went downhill for me when it went all colour and everyone started drooling over boring Bisley spreads.
That's 30 years ago, mate.

That said, black and white was gorgeous when it came to Steve Yeowell on Zenith, Bryan Talbot's Nemesis stunt and Mike McMahon's Slaine work.

Black and white has style to it, Dreddworld looks like a range of bacon hues

Loved Yeowell on Zenith after the first phase. Hated Talbot on Nemesis. What about O'Neil? He was the true hero of that story.
McMahon on most stories was incredible. Though I didn't really appreciate his work enough at the time I was really inspired by his dynamic perspective especially in covers and pin ups.

(Deadworld sorry, it’s a Dark Judges prequel/parallel world thing)

Sounds interesting. . . though, as much as I liked the dark judges as a kid, I found the original premise they were built on/reason they existed, to be a bit weak, and dare I say 'silly'.
I think I only ever got as far as Necropolis and things like the magical witchy dead sisters (or whatever they were) were one of the reasons I probably tapped out. . . . .
. . . . . that and all the 'colour' ugh.

O' Neill was spectacular. But Talbot had his own thing going on, as did Hinckle.

As a young person, it took a while to get McMahon's style. Think it was his work on the Judge Child and then obviously Slaine that swung it.

I never really liked his work on Slaine at the time or even Dredd at that period, but was really taken by some of the covers he did. I later met a guy called Rufus Dayglo (who I now think has since himself drawn for 2000ad - I know he did tank girl) who was covered in McMahon Tattoos. He would get the actual Mac to specifically design them for him. Rufus also said (back in the early 2000s) that McMahon now and then was a bit strapped for cash so he would buy old 2000ad original artwork pages or commissions off him. Probably not a bad investment. He wasn't paying very much for them. I remember saying I wasn't that into Mac's work, and I really regret that now as I have come to really appreciate his stuff. It's weird, I didn't think tastes changed like that. I was really into Ian Gibsons stuff, but I'm really not so interested at all now (not that it is bad, it has great style).
I have never tired of O'Neil, especially his first work on Nemesis - comic rock, and the original opener of the Gothic empire (which got shifted down to book 4 for being a bit too out there to kick it all off). In my mind Nemesis lost it during the Talbot run and I left 2000ad in the 90s. I did come back at some point when I moved to london. Not sure why. I just found an absolute shit load of progs under the stairs that I had forgotten about, so I must of given it another crack for quite a few years. It's the few golden age early 80s progs that I still have that I really treasure though.

Rufus Dayglo is pretty regular. He really reminds me of Hewlett, so Tank Girl is probably appropriate.

My biggest problem with Nemesis was having Torquemada lifted out of time before his death and that not having any effect on the timeline. Plus, the final episode which saw O' Neill return with half hearted art, imho.

O' Neill's work on Robusters, ABC Warriors and even Dash Decent was usually a joy.

Gave up the comic once briefly in the 80s and for good in the 90s. Will occasionally pick up an issue every few years to see what's happening.

Proteus Vex appearing to come to an end :(
Real shame as it was one of my top series from recent years and a nice contrast to others. After initially feeling it lost a little when Lynch took over art duties from Flint, I grew into the new artwork.

Hopefully it will be a rest rather than a total ending.

Terrible story too as I recall. I don't remember hating the art, but I didn't get excited about it like I wanted to be. I'm pretty sure I still have that issue. It was the 2000th or the 2000ad (the year) edition wasn't it? Might have even been free or something.

Actually thinking about it, I must have given up during the later 80s and come back in the late 90s. Pretty sure I had given up again
