1980s British TV film with a nutter on a barge. Kinda like 'Dead Calm' - but not.

No it was a one off tv drama. I remember it but can't remember the name.

hmmm...might there have been a series of one off TV dramas around this time? I've never been one for watching any old crap on the goggle-box so wonder if i may have seen this particular play as there was usually something good on at this time?

There was a particually good little series on ITV (well for the time anyway :D) back in the mid-late '70s called Thriller. Just one off little goulish tales on a Saturday night.

Had an eerie bit of music at the advert break too.

Don't know why they don't show these again, rather than some of the shite that's on.

I think it might have been part of BBC Screen Two series.

aha ha ha!!! i have just remembered that when I saw 'dead calm' which was with this girl i was seeing when i was doing a club in a particular venue it would have been LATE 1989 or early 1990 and we had BOTH seen this UK film/play set on the barge previously as we both commented on it afterwards.

Which means the film I am talking about MUST have been shown on TV in 1987-early 1990

hope that's a help :)

Got it!

It's called 'Way Upstream'. It was a BBC adaptation of the Alan Ayckbourne play and it went out 1st January 1988.

Agreed, but I thought it was Alan Bleasdale. Getting my Alans mixed up.

It is available for d/l on TheBox.bz if you have an account

There was a strand on ITV called "Murder, Mystery, Suspense" in the 1980s. There was also a Van Der Valk revival in the late 1980s. I don't think either one ended with Van Der Valk being shagged by Rosie & Jim through a life ring.

It's funny how certain things stick in your mind. I couldn't remember the name of it or any of the cast, but for some reason the name Alan Ayckbourn came to mind - http://wayupstream.alanayckbourn.net/WayUpstreamMedia.htm

you are amazing. thank you so much. will have to see if someone who is conversant with all that downloading films/bit torrent malarkey can get it for me. would be intrigues to see it again. :)
