so maybe it actually happened and wasn't just a film?

Was it a possible theatre play, rather than being on the telly?

No it was a one off tv drama. I remember it but can't remember the name.
Theatre?![]()

hmmm...might there have been a series of one off TV dramas around this time? I've never been one for watching any old crap on the goggle-box so wonder if i may have seen this particular play as there was usually something good on at this time?

Agreed, but I thought it was Alan Bleasdale. Getting my Alans mixed up.Got it!
It's called 'Way Upstream'. It was a BBC adaptation of the Alan Ayckbourne play and it went out 1st January 1988.

There was a strand on ITV called "Murder, Mystery, Suspense" in the 1980s. There was also a Van Der Valk revival in the late 1980s. I don't think either one ended with Van Der Valk being shagged by Rosie & Jim through a life ring. There was a particually good little series on ITV (well for the time anyway) back in the mid-late '70s called Thriller. Just one off little goulish tales on a Saturday night.
That's what I was coming to tell the thread. Or at least that it was Ayckbourne.Got it!

Did it have nightmare inducing bum-rapage in a life ring?

Well done.
It's funny how certain things stick in your mind. I couldn't remember the name of it or any of the cast, but for some reason the name Alan Ayckbourn came to mind - http://wayupstream.alanayckbourn.net/WayUpstreamMedia.htm
