1968 and all that 10th May Conway hall

The largest serious broad left/anarchist, conference/bookfair in my memory.

In fact, I cannot think of a different event which was larger. Can somebody please suggest one?

Who's going then? I am. There is a very interesting line of speakers and stalls, actually forcing the different groups into the same room as each other. Is Bone gonna grab the mic and kick over a few stalls? Will Nick Heath turn up to an event Ian Bone is at? Cos he doesn't get on with Ian....

Will the left actually open up and carry on this interesting new initiative?

Can we ruin the ICC meeting?:p Can we put "Kick me" on Chris Harmans back? So many questions so many grudges:D

The new MAYDAY magazine will be out - a must read for the movement cos it is not stale, formulaic, repetitive or bothered about a party line. Instead this magazine of autonomy and movement is taking on the redundant left, anarchists and making them look stupid:D

A broad left @ bookfair/conference every year would make a good event - we should build it up till it could occupy Alley Pally every year!! Like the ESF did in 2004...

Just think of the stage storming possibilities:hmm::D

Right, and which one of them arhues that the May events (worldwide or just in France) were simply 'a bunch of narcissitic numpties banging on about Mao's great vision for the world' -i've read most of them and more and i'll tell you - none. 10 million workers on general strike, the third largest work stoppage in history, hundreds of occupied factories, Nantes taken over and run by a semi-soviet, De Gaulle making arrnagments with Nato for military measures to stop a potential revolutionary uprising etc. If they did argue something so crude they'd simply be laughed out of academia - esp when the combined memberships of all the French Maoist groups numbered around 2-3000 and consisted mainly of students and recent students.
So, 50 years on - what does May '68 (and the global '68) mean today?

I'm over 50 and it means even less to me, being just 2 at the time. Guess you'd have to be in your 60s to have been involved or influenced.

Slightly more serious answer, I suppose it's given a whole lot of academics an easy way to define something about history and how things were different back in the day.
