19.01/08 Saturday: Brixton Market Traders Honour Murder Victim

I've just got back from the vigil, Atlantic Road was closed off for it but not before a 322 bus had to negotiate its way through the crowd.

After a minute's silence there were some very moving speeches including from Khalilulah's friends, family, customers and the police. Overall message was that this murder must not and will not divide the community, a view that was applauded by the multi racial crowd of hundreds who turned up to show their support.

Very moving indeed - I was touched by how the speakers had made many efforts to stress community, racial harmony and the positive aspects of Brixton.

Nevertheless a very dark day.

I found it very moving even though I couldn't hear a lot of what was being said. A real pity the SLP got the time wrong because it did wind up fairly quickly after 6:30

A good turnout.I felt very sorry for the murdered mans family.Nice that several of the speakers were customers of the shop.Turns out the Khalilulah was training to be a doctor and was going to return to Afghanistan as he was refused asylum here.
