16 mile each way commute - bike recommendations

7 is a good number. 8 is just over egging the pudding.

But now when I go shopping for groceries I use panniers 'cause I don't wanna be like them old men who walks with his back horizontal

I don't wanna be like an old horizontal man either!:(
Nothing i can do til minime gets on her own bike though cos the tag On thingy is at back with no room for anything else.

I want a rack and panniers

Possibly a small one but I don't think I want to add anything else to the load I'm pulling. Might look into it though....:hmm:

somehow I neglected to stress I meant above the handlebars - maybe a vertical rack seeing as there is already a bag occupying that space - though how you would get on and off escapes me.

How do you swing your leg over the saddle anyway without hitting her ? - or is it a woman's frame ?

If you change your mind about expense, Can I suggest that you spend £1500 on The Canonodale Vintage 8 ultra.
Its a very nice bicycle wich should aid you on a long journey. Very light frame & an ergonomic riding position. Dynamo Lights, Panier rack, fenders, hydraulic Disc Brakes.
If you are going to Travel a long way then why not ride with comfort.

why not get a front rack and use with panniers

hmm... you're making me rethink whether I could do 10 miles each way for a commute. I've got til Friday to apply for a job, but it'll be an hour each way..

I dropped down from 8.5miles each way to 6.5miles each way when I changed jobs and I find it MUCH easier now.

I still don't cycle anywhere near every day (only when its convenient), but on 8.5miles I was exhausted when I got home, whereas now I can do 6.5 comfortably.

I don't know if it's just the distance - although I'm no fitter, if anything I'm less fit than I used to be - maybe I'm just more 'efficient' at cycling now.

I reckon I would be knackered if I did 10 miles home - but would still be quicker than public transport. Didn't apply for the job in the end, but won't sack off a job just because it's a bit further by bike next time :)

It would probably depend on the actual route too - eg, how hilly it is, are there any particularly nasty bits of road full of HGVs or is it mostly quite laid back with sections across parks. I find a shorter frantic route as tiring as a longer gentle route.
