They hanged 'insurgents' ie people fighting against US and the UK troops occupying their land. THAT is why we should have been told on our news - it has nothing to do with 'culture' and everything to do with punishing people who are quite rightly trying to drive out imperialist occupiers from their land.
Well, you're the one arguing and implying that insurgents in Iraq are soley interested in resisting American rule and that sectarian anitpathy between Sunni and Shia doesn't feature.
Quite how you see bomb attacks against Sunni/Shia Mosques, markets and other civilians targets by Sunni/Shia militias is hurting the Americans is anybody's guess.
I doubt that any Sunni or Shia wounded or bereaved by these sectarian massacres would share that optimistic view.
