They wrote some very clever lyrics. They were a good singles band at the time. Not all great but can't deny they did some good stuff.

I like some crap - but 10CC are a step too far.

Me and a friend of mine used to play Dreadlock holiday - but only to titter and shake our heads at the lyrics.

Fucking excellent singles band. Proof that Steely Dan didn't have the monopoly on pre-punk pop irony and invention. Seconded that 'I'm Not In Love' is a masterpiece, and 'Art For Art's Sake' doesn't fall far behind in terms of production pioneering.

Indeed. Under Your Thumb is a masterpiece of random storytelling pop, and I love the riff from The Wall Street Shuffle.

They were pretty good up until Godley and Creme left - after that they quickly went shit. Really shit. Dreadlock Holiday was truly awful - but it was also very catchy and thanks to this thread I now have it playing in my head. I will try to obliterate it by thinking about one of their far superior earlier singles 'The Dean and I', which was and still is

Did the music for Animalympics (well Graham Gouldman did). Not crap.

Is there anyone who remembers this film? Everyone I mention it to knows nothing of it.

I definitely remember it being released, and wanting to go to see it, but I never did get the chance.

I got to see Airplane! at the cinema that year instead though; on balance, everything worked out just fine really...

I used to be very into 'The Original Soundtrack' when I was in my teens - a friend's older sister had it.

Apart from the singles, 'One Night In Paris' from said album is pretty ace.

Definitely not crap.

Not so keen on their music but technically Godley and Creme are pioneers, they reinvented the video format and gave it a veneer that MTV couldn't.

And as Bees said, their attention to production was sublime.

They pushed boundaries within their chosen art, which is all I think we can ever hope to achieve.

Over the past few years I've been listening to 10cc
after not listening to them for a while, and was blown
away by how fantastic they still sound. First hand
they just sound like any other pop songs, but listen
to the lyrics and there is more to them than meets
the eye.

as a nipper i get the impresssion that right up until britpop, pop music generally had more meaningful lyrics. Indeed, any meaning at all, rather than a collection of 'raunchy' soundbites.

10CC, not crap! Heard 'rubber bullets' 2 yeasr ago on the radio and cut through the SHIT of capitalgold like a flaming scalpel (fucking workmates choice). Tune proper cracks me up, i love it. Got a few other of their tunes, not in love, don't like cricket - both also good.

Looked em up on wikipedia, accomplished pop musicians, and fair play. had a career for over a decade i think.

I mean, i'm not being asked whether 10cc are great, we're being asked if they are 'crap'. They are not crap, and thats undisputable.

overproduced bloated seventies session men toss.

which looking back at it from here, is quite appealing!

i mean, accomplished musicians writing their own successful songs which have aome lyrical depth and meaning? Fuck that, lets have some cunt covering some other cunt in a tune fronted by a bunch of lip synching cunts to be sold to pre teen cunts.

Good band
Good musicians
Good (or even great, given its time) production
Good songs

Of their time, not crap

(Quite good for my sexlife. So biased :o)
