100 Brixton Hill change

no, it's camping centre or bust!
i like the idea of showing films in the old cinema. the electrical shop doesn't quite have the same ring to it...!

Shame someone like Seamus never bought it. Would have been great as a pub and music venue. Us regulars could have a quiet drink while those noisy bands had their sound sessions in the back :D

Despite the sloppily put together header on that webpage, I think the landlords are "only" after £15,000 a year, not each month

maybe someone should point that out to them :D

Lang Rabbie - would whoever bought it still have to keep the theatre bit as it is?

It is in the Rush Common conservation area, so you would need to get a separate permission to demolish. I also reckon that that would make it difficult to get permission for anything taller than the cottages next door.

AFAIK both of Mr Khan's planning applications for the site (which apparently both kept the cinema "dome") were turned down. The one for 13 flats above the shops - that started the thread about this site over a year ago - was turned down in April 2004. A scaled down application with 9 flats was turned down in November 2004.

What a shame. :( :D

Wonder why?

how about converting the existing building into something like what i've outlined above? no demolishing - in fact i'd actively want to preserve the existing building.

not that i can do it of course, so please don't waste any valuable time on this...just pie in the sky.

Because as the land is part of Rush Common, it should never have been built on in the first place.

It is not impossible that a bar would get planning permission - although I suspect that the roof is so thin that major soundproofing work would be needed before it could be a music venue.

Why no residents?

The front can be for the regulars and the back can be for the music. AND NO BIGGER PA SYSTEMS PLEASE  :p

I know that but WHAT will be allowed to be on the premises in that case?

Oh, and will the seats have to be kept in the theatre? My b/f went in there many many years ago and the guy showed him out the back. Said he wasn't allowed to move the seats or change the theatre in any way.

doesn't the eritrean place use all of the building then? i've never been in there...

No idea, I've not been in

Anyone? Gaijingirl's been in there a few times. Oi, where are you? :D

I thought most of the auditorium was demolished when they built the new block of business units at the back (Weren't they Brixton Challenge funding era?) The conservation area was only declared in the late 1990s.

IIRC the tent and tarpaulin shop only occupied the former foyer of the cinema.

I dunno? Maybe it's time you went and investigated Lang (for the benefit of U75 of course) :D

I really don't want Ibex to close down....it's one of my fav restaurants in Brixton.... :(

Maybe the new place will be a Thai and a Japanese restaurant... like Ichiban sushi... that'd be wicked!!

sorry about that but you were acting cocky and had to be outed :)
the reason i miss spending part of my time in SE19 is that there's a nice japanese and a couple of decent pizza places up there and it would be great to have that sort of stuff on the hill cos I'm fed up of going to Streatham for decent food I'll sign off now before completely pissing off the Niners

So have you got around to asking the b/f how long ago that was?

The chap who appeared to own the tent place was a strange old cove. I wouldn't put it past him to have had some dreams of restoring it to its former glory.

er no, sorry. :o Was probably a long long time ago 'cos I can't imagine what he would have been going in there for otherwise (apart from those thick padded jackets that builders wear).

b/f has a very bad memory so he probably won't know either :D
