‘Social media influencer’ requests free hotel stay. Drama ensues

They both come across like utter twats. I don't think there's anything wrong with a bit of blag - shy bairns get nowt and all that - but that obviously puts you at risk of being knocked back, and she obviously didn't do her research (not good for blag or business), and then she could have taken him being a bit of a wankstain about it a bit more graciously - pink eye isn't a good look (neither is slagging off everyone over 30). They've obviously both got a bit of publicity out of it though so whatever greases the wheels.

My biggest social media influencer's are my friends.

I'm far more likely to go somewhere, someone I know has been and can recommend, and certainly when it comes to local services. E.g. I'm probably going to get a drive put on the house this year, I'll ask my friends for recommendations before searching for myself.

Obvs you guys influence me a bit as well, far more than any random on twitter or YouTube.

I think being helpful is far more useful, but then, I work in IT and it's part of our nature to just write up about all the random problems we have in the hope that it may help others who come across the same problem.

What are all these young vloggers going to do when they get to their 30's, no one's interested in them anymore and the have zero work experience?

Exactly, which is why the best social media strategy is to provide good products backed up by great customer care. But that largely makes marketing departments irrelevant to a company’s social media usage, so instead they buy into bollocks like the good lady vlogger here.

I felt nauseous after watching a couple of mins of that jittery cutting every third word video. And it went on for 15 minutes of her presumably making the same poorly worded non-point.

And from what I can see he didn't name her and covered up her details in his posts while she's gone to her local paper and posed for photos.

Maybe it's a generational thing but I can't stand most vloggers. The only ones I do like tend to be old guys like Techmoan and Grand Illusions

Marketing - almost certainly.

Or if some of them are sensible under all the rubbish, they'll get trained in (and use some of their blagging skills to get into) whatever they're vlogging about (ie become a beautician, fitness trainer, interior designer, chef, etc).

Tbh fair play to them though - if companies are stupid enough to giving them stuff/money why shouldn't they live off it and avoid having a shit job for a bit?

A lot of the actual blogger sites never seem to run adverts either. How on earth do they make money?

Daddy/trust-fund

These fuckers are to be despised in the same way as the DJ/model/actor pricks who live off their selfish parents cash and are just about self aware enough to be embarrassed about that to concoct some bullshit reason for existing.

OMG how dare anyone older than her have a thing to say about her entitled, freeloading, conceited way of working/viewing the world....I mean what the hell...anyone who doesn't support her is clearly an older, bitter, washed up 30-something...She is just an innocent 22 year old woman...unfuckingtouchable, you bunch of bulliesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssszzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

That seemed to be the gist of that video and her argument.

some of them will be able to retire

any twinges of sympathy i was feeling for her (i hate social media hate pile ons) have long gone after watching this

These influencers are constantly working, they live their entire lives in public through social media and vlogging.
Forget coal miners, cleaners and people on zero hours contract. Bloggers are the real grafters here.

I know the Independent's fall from respected photo-heavy newspaper to clickbait drivel peddler, but "icky"?

Asking for freebies may feel icky to people who do not work in the industry

This bit is spot on

“Social media has certainly not levelled the playing field, but it has opened up opportunities to people who would previously have been shut out from certain career options because they don’t live in London or New York, because they can’t afford to complete unpaid internships or spend years going on auditions in the hope that one day someone will pick them over the person who went to the same private school as the talent scout’s kid“

And ultimately a lot of pr people are probably pretty PO’ed at the “opening up” of their trades secrets - essentially paid for reviews.

I have a facebook page with 100K posts..... I'm more of a social media influencer than this twat, and I don't even have to make videos, and I post maybe 3 times a year.

I don't really give a shit about the story TBH but the editing on that. What's going on. I guess the visuals are all over the place but the sound too. The cuts every few words. Jarring and sounds fucking stupid. Sort out your zero crossings.
