Well, I think that's important - plenty of unloved-at-the-time stock has been lost, even though it turned out to be a significant part of the heritage - early SR electrics, some of the early diesel types, etc. I expect those Class 15s and 22s were viewed at the time much as the Pacers are now

In terms of "last runs" - the Welsh ones are quite limited - they cannot go north of Craven Arms in service for example - but they could go as far as Taunton with no issues. Some diehards could manage a full day to Fishguard say and up towards Craven Arms on the Heart of Wales. Cannot say I would pay for the privilige myself , but - like them or not , they saved the local railways in the hard times of the 1980's .
Quite telling how shite the service is that people are happy as larry that we are getting brand new trains (with plug sockets!) instead of hand-me-downs from London. Also not pleased that they've also dropped plans to have extra stations for the East of Cardiff in Splott, Rover War, St. Mellons etc.
Looks like some of them may be kind of refurbished hand me downs.
I've been following this project (the Vivarail one) for a while and the case for the refurbs is fairly compelling although whether that plays out in practice is another matter and of course I can imagine it being frustrating to be on the receiving end!

They are refurbished hand-me-downs, but they're mechanically and internally pretty much new trains. It might be nice to have "new trains", but these would be, I think, a very good option as far as hand-me-downs go. Better, say, than Pacers or some tarted up Sprinters...
