Help NASA map Mars. Be a Martian!

Long story short, they've taken too many pictures of Mars, and haven't had time to go through them all. They've created this little game thingy, where you can explore Mars. Tred ground that very few have seen before. Maybe even make a discovery of your own.

Lining up the two different images is surprisingly difficult!

naah it aint, they're pretty much already in place, you've just got to make it a little bit more in place. You don't have to stitch the 3 pictures together! Counting craters is more difficult IMO, cos the image you're given has any amount of them, and it's hard to tell what's a crater and what's not.

But still, I helped map Mars today, not something I thought I'd be doing when I woke up

    It is difficult!

At least with the images I've had to line up. The sun's in a different place so the shadows have highlighted different aspects of the terrain. I've just looked at one and there appears to be a bloody great chasm in the background photo but it's not visible in any respect on the image I'm supposed to line up. (Everything else seems to match though)

Yeah, I know, but the first few large background images I was given were pretty much featureless plains.

Just tried counting craters. The software worked for the first couple but then my clicking and dragging to resize and move crosses just started adding extra crosses all over the place. And I can't find any way to contact them and say so. Didn't submit it as there didn't seem to be any point...

I spent some time spotting craters and it is well hard - and it screwed up after a while for me too.
