Urban Green Fair, 20th Sept, Brockwell Park 2009

The Urban Green Fair is an annual family event, with films, talks, workshops, kids activities, stalls, sunshine and unusual bicycles.

With no bars or big stages the emphasis is on education and communication. A chance to share ideas, meet familiar faces and make new friends.

With little government action on peak oil and climate change there is plenty to discuss and lots we can do as individuals. Check out the zones on the right and get a taste of what to expect this year.

See you on the 20th September!

Well, the Urban Green Fair is over for another year...and what a year!

More people, more things to do, bigger event, I was delighted to be a part of it. Please feel free to use this thread for feedback on this year, suggestions for next year, posting pictures, sharing stories, or really anything Urban Green Fair related.

This thread will be read by the actual UGF team - me included (I'm the web guy)!

So, many thanks to all our wonderful guests, participants and volunteers (and of course nature/god/ra/other/delete as appropriate for your personal belief system for the nice weather), you've all really helped us grow and progress this event, and really build on the potential shown over the first two years.

I personally felt like we'd progressed to feeling quite 'established' this year. For want of a better word I felt there was perhaps a maturity to the event this year that wasn't there in previous years, and I personally feel really confident that we've got very solid foundations in place to build on now, with little bits and pieces starting to branch off and take root from the Urban Green Fair itself.

Thanks again everyone, and I really look forward to any feedback you might leave!

yeah i had a good time, not enough juice and the queues were a bit long for food. It had a good vibe and felt very well organised, very little litter, presumably that was the calibre of the punter !

(i'm still very depressed by the uk licensing laws though, a small amount of music would've been fine)

Thanks DJ. Anything in particular you liked? Share your highlights if you feel like it!

Re: Litter - yes, good people, I think the vibe of the festi helps, also we do make an effort to clean up as we go - it saves us work in the long run

Was the juice a problem with a particular cafe, or was it part of the free food for kids? If it's the latter I'll be sure and pass it on.

Finally, the licensing laws - yes, I agree. Unfortunately they link booze to music, which I find ridiculous, but there you go - music license means booze license, there's no middle ground, otherwise I think we'd also like to have a small amount of music (though not too much, the accident of no license in the first year has proved to be thing that makes us special I think, IE with the emphasis on the talks and the 'issues man', as opposed to it being another party, basically.

That said, there is some kind of proviso about music being allowed 'as long as it's moving' so maybe in a year or two we might start testing that. We perhaps missed Rinky-Dink this year, who circumvented that problem very nicely.

Isn't it the case that we can apply for music licence for a enclosed zone within the festival? Perhaps we could have an acoustic music and performance zone next year?
