the soma field? what's that?

do you mean the ID Spiral bit? If you do then the music there was shite, whale music for irredeemable hippies. glad it's there though, it corrals all the hippies into one area of the festival so none of the rest of us have to deal with them. Same goes for the Origin stage, keeps all the trance bunnies away from the decent music

they were all dance tents though

think you mean sancho panza - the one with the bar in it and sort of opposite the Pussy Parlure. I thought the music was bollocks in there as well to be fair I will always think of it as 'the blanket stall', Dubversion knows why

I wanna go back again too. mud be buggered, I love the Glade

Just arrived back in Edinburgh. Getting off site was a doddle in our 4WD thank fuck <adopts smug bastard mode>
Didnt really eat or sleep much all weekend so I'm off for a triple poached egg, toast and marmite, a spliff and bed. Glade report to follow but I'm a happy little bunny right now

if you wanted to wait for 5 hours in the pissing down rain, yeah. one of em came over and said he'd take us for 40 quid. we were so fucked off by that point we just said yes. my mates in a wheelchair and the 'organisers' didnt help AT ALL with getting us off the site, and the rest of our mates just fucked off and got the train without even offering to help with the car.

apart from the complete 'dont give a fuck' attitude by the marshals/stewards/security with regard to help my disabled friend out the weekend was ace.

ace weekend - glad we went. music good.....mud less so...organisation an utter shambles, marshalling non existent, and some prices were a bit fierce..£3.20 for a can of red stripe?!??!

Took us around 3 hours to push the cars out, which was a bit grim. Some of our mates joined the queue for the tractors around 3, and were finally towed out around 8.30. Not surprised the tractors were charging £40 - apparently prices started off at a fiver

I don't have a comedown because I didn't take any stimulants (well apart from Red Bull) I am feeling so terribly smug it is probably unbearable
I wouldn't say I had an amazing time though. I found it very heavy going. I enjoyed it when I got the opportunity to dance properly (3hrs on Friday, 5hrs on Saturdy), otherwise it felt a bit like basic survival and I was happy to get home to an absence of mud

Could you give examples and, if possible, times and places? I can feed this back if it involves Oxfam stewards but I'd need a bit more info mate.

Sorry your friend had a shit experience with the people who are supposed to be helping out.

again, examples would be good, anything involving Oxfam I can take note of and feed back and one or two of the organisers read the boards so anything relevant to them should be picked up if you're specific

Oooo, I'd just like to get a maximum Big Up and Thank You out to the stewards who must have had an unbelievably hard time of it. Despite the carnage, things did seem to work, so thank you all more than I can say.

Thank you

The Glade is a notoriously difficult operation for us by now I think, for several reasons, but 99% of us do our best. It was hard work but I really enjoyed it and so did most of the other stewards I spoke to. It's a good crowd at the Glade, which helps. Give me thousands of seriously off their faces munters roaming around a muddy swamp over uppity and up themselves middle class wankers in range rovers at Womad any day

I didnt go to glade for the music, i went for the atmosphere, the people and the drugs. I don't really like psytrance. Did far too much speed and mdma, and did ket for the 1st time.

however SL2 in the overkill tent on friday night were absolutely immense.

yesterday was a fucking struggle, i had no energy in my body whatsoever, yet we had to drag a shit load of stuff on a trolley across the mud. It actually took us 3 hours to get from our tents to where our lift was picking us up.

however it did mean we didnt have to deal with getting a car towed or anything like that.

feelin a bit wank today

sure Just general observations really

I have to say that any individual marshalls I ran across were pretty helpful - they just seems a bit swamped, and to not know where the issues were, which seemed unusual, as they're normally pretty good.

Friday night we were in queues for 3 hours 2 miles from the site. One gate (in the village) was shut, with literally crowds of folks with no idea what the hell was going on. Folks were being turned away from that gate, but not told that there was another a mile or two down the road. There were quite a few seriously grumpy people, with it appeared, no idea what to do or where to go.

Other folks were just abandoning cars by the side of the road, and walking in. There were probably a couple of hundred cars there blocking footpaths, people's driveways and stuff. That's probably more of a policing issue really (they were equally invisible) but some form of traffic control, and a presence to tell people what was going on might have made things better.

Once we got in, our wristbands wern't checked moving from the campervan fields, to the site once. Also the access to the site from the campervan fields had a river going through it, that was kind of dark, fast moving and pretty close to welly top height. it was a bit hairy, and a couple of folks went over..no one mentioned of course that 20 yards away was another entrance that was river free...

Also, i thought there was a no glass policy? if there was, it wasn't enforced, and given the amount of people sloshing around in bare feet, I hope no one got hurt.

the toilets were a fecking nightmare - and weren't cleaned enough. They were also very helpfully locked around 10am monday, which considering how much peeps were struggling to get off site, wasn't that helpful.

The site turned into a bit of a health and safety nightmare by Sunday. Bogs had formed in some areas to almost knee height. These should have been cordoned off really, and wern't.

The car parks had SO few stewards in on monday. The ones that were there really seemed to be trying to help, but were just overwhelmed by the number of people trying to get out. We passed a metal trackway that seemes to have been pulled up and stacked up on the grass when we did get out, which didn't seem hugely helpful. People having to pay anything up to £40 to get their cars pulled out seemed a bit steep too. The car parks were a bit of an acident waiting to happen too tbh. Loads of cars spinning all over the place trying to keep moving, and then unable to steer in the mud. we saw 2 cars get hit - but I'll be amazed if no people were.

Overall, it was a good fest, and i had a blast, but the organisation wasn't great. Sure they took a lot of water, and did well to get things up and running at all, but we'd known that was going to be a wet 'un for a week. Contingency planning didn't seem to exist really, and preparation for the rain seemed non existent. Marshalls and police didn't seem to be in the right place, at the right time, and were overwhelmed when they were.

Music wise? A+, no worries on that score. Organisation? d-, must try harder, felt a bit like being at a £30 hippy fest, only with food and beer prices from Ascot.

Fucking crackers - got there on Friday and they weren't letting people in so we holed up in the pub for a few hours - found out which member of Dreadzone has the cleanest arse-hole (to the squeak mate, to the squeak)
Had to wade to glade - proper flooded with kids going home from school in dingys - mental!
Leapt the fence with no bother and then its all a bit of a blur - Lost my shoes within about 10 minutes of getting there - every footstep was a new textual sensation after that I can tells ya.
Tried 2 new types of drug and sold enough n2o to fill a barrage balloon (at a pound a pop, not like those fuckers doing it for 3 quid )
Missed loads of good bands, lost loads of lovely ladies numbers - same again next year!

Specific problems:
No "protection" of main access ways an thoroughfares- some decking/palettes/bark-chippings/straw/anything, so all the most trafficked areas got absolutely horrendous really fast. I don't know if there could have been a away to mitigate this, but the metal roadway that went down from the top of the campsite to toilets near the Origin stage was pretty good and seemed to survive. More of that would have been a very good choice.

Again (like last year)no publicly accessible taps in or near the arenas. Absolute disgrace. They were marked on the maps but not there. That was shit.

Absence of anywhere to sit. No idea what could have been done about this, but it did basically ruin the festival for me.

I thought the toilets were pretty much ok, but maybe I was just lucky.

Bar prices were crazy- £3.20 for a can of Red Stripe is ridiculous, £1.50 for water equally so. But they did have Aspells on tap, which was a good choice!

e2a: uniformed police on site was a bit of a freaky one! Very pro-active security just demanding that people hand over their drugs or they'd have to find them !
