Penshaw Monument vs Angel of the North

Following the Antony Gormley thread and the derail, what do you prefer? The Angel of the North are the Penshaw Monument.

I know one is a folly monument and the other is a bit of public art, but which do you prefer.

Was for the Earl of Durham wasn't it? I love that... "I AM GOING TO BUILD A MONUMENT... TO MYSELF"

Just like the Lions in Alnwick, built by the good people of Northumberland for the Duke, after he never raised taxes for two or three years... yeah right

I dunno why people say Angel of the North is crap. There's something quite haunting about it...

he built it for his kid. but it's just as public as the angel of the north, they are both easy to see, was the angel not built by lottery money?? don't see the big difference myself

Check out the other icons, fucking cringe worthy.

Blake's Jerusalem. It is fucking dire (the site). The worst part being:

The red cross on a white background is an instantly recognisable emblem of England.
As it hangs in tatters from the builder's van from last years worldcup

and they kicked all the tramps off the streets to clean up the area. moved them on instead of solving the housing issue in the first place ffs.

remember reading about that in the evening chronicle and people were supporting it. tossers. "get them off the streets, they make the place look a disgrace."

one of the most disgusting things about europe that attitude 'move them on, problem solved' ignore thefact that they have just moved them somewhere else and the problem will come back.....

head in sand attitude. kids die everyday through something as easily cured as clean drinking water, the twin towers fall and everyone is full of sycophantic woe.

anniversary of the tsunami? there won't be one - maybe a late night slot on newsnight.

angel is better than penshaw. considerably. when i see penshaw i don't think, "get in, only 20 minutes until i get home." Which is what I do think when i see the angel. So i guess for what it signifies the angel is better. As a work of art neither really do it for me.
