Not only is the long-established Electronics Enterprises shutting down and being sold off, but the Caribbean restaurant (once home to Dawn of the Raj) is up for sale, the post office is moving next door, the solicitors' office (once the London School of Motoring) is up for grabs, and the Links framing/art shop is closing down.
So, plenty of room for Starbucks, Pizza Express, Cafe Rouge and a vegan health food shop, then.

You'll be the new Clapham this time next year!

Probably be rebranded as 'St Reatham Heights' while they're at it ;)

that could well mean no one's buy, buy, buying and that vendors are registering with multiple agents in desperation...

now's the time to snap up the damp basement of your dreams - a snip at just two-thirds of your monthly income.

Well I for one am not surprised to see Links closing down.

Went there a couple of times to get some cards cut for framing pictures and their service was woeful. Incapable of doing the job right first time, unable to keep to promises regarding job completion date and bloody expensive to boot.

Good riddance.

I could never understand how Linx has stayed open as long as it has... never any customers anywhere near the place.

Unfortunately, I can see it sitting empty for an age... I mean, there's already two general stores, a chicken shop, chippy, chinese, african, indian and Pizza place within spitting distance. Unless it becomes... another barbers or nailbar...

Well there's only two estate agents in that parade... I expect like most of the other recently vacated properties it will go that way!

*rubs hands with glee*

Hopefully property prices elsewhere in the country will rise and the prices in brixton go down then me and the cabbage can get a super nice flat in Brixton. :D

Don't forget you have to have to pass the vetting and get permission from the Central Committee first. ;) I'm sure I can put in a good word for you. For a... sweetener... ;) ;)

Oh, Dawn of the Raj up for sale again, or rather Onyx, or whatever it's called.

Maybe we'll get a decent chippy :D

Has Mace decided what they're going to do with the Post Office yet?

Months ago I asked the guy and he had absolutely no idea, suggesting video rentals, internet cafe

Wasn't that Mr Khan's new venture? Is it up for sale already?

Khan bought out Dawn of the Raj and Tent & Tarpaulin shop (now the Eritrean place).

Don't know whether he's renting the properties or sold them. If he sold them he probably made a fortune on them because he held on to the properties for long enough and I believe he only paid in the region of £300,000-£400,000 (if the rumours were true)

I think Khan still owns them both. Before the Caribbean place opened, the guy at Curry Paradise told me he was thinking of taking over the place but said that the rent scared him off.
The old tent place seems to be doing OK as a restaurant though. It was packed the other night.
Don't know who, if anyone, acquired Electronic Enterprises when the freehold was auctioned off last month.
I think the guy at Bookmongers should look at opening a second branch to save us Hill types the long walk down into SW9:)

You mean you don't have one of these?

(Just thought I'd get that in before any of those SW9ers (or swines) gets in there first)

For those interested, rumour has it that Onyx is going to be a Japanese restaurant

IBEX..the Abyssinian Restaurant is absolutely fabulous. MUCH cheaper than Asmara and the people who run it are lovely. On Sat nights there is a band in there playing music... it's really really great.

If the Japanese restaurant rumour holds water, my (Japanese) other half will be delighted, especially if they do decent noodles.

Incidentally, I noticed on my morning constitutional down to the station the other day that the launderette next door to the Spanish caff at the bottom of the hill is about to close down to become, wait for it.......

An estate agent! Hurrah!

hee hee that looks like it's true; Onyx was a waste of space BUT if the Japanese place is any good I'll be broke and the owners of Cafe On The Hill, Pizza Ring and the Chinese will miss me

btw wouldn;t it be great if we got a sainsbury's or even a mini posh grocery store on the hill, but I fear what will happen is another fucking Tesco.
who eats that crap? their own brand stuff is worse than the shit you buy in corner shops when you have the munchies
and oh apparently they're opening a store at the end of New Park Road...fuckers. Toyotas are more usueful than Tesco shitfood

Well at the risk of a bollocking as I never buy Tescos stuff anyway, I might just go in there if it means I can get a loaf of bread :o

You'll probably be interested (if not pleased) that the old car showroom on the south circular, just off Brixton Hill, is going to turn into a Sainsburys. Last I heard it was planned for 2005-06. Can't remember if it is a "local" or one of their mid sized babies.

yep, it's what he was talking about. just clarifying that it was going to be an Orange supermarket rather than a blue one
