......Can anyone recommend a GP surgery near to the Hobgoblin junction of Brixton WAter Lane. We live just up Tulse Hill by the park. My doctor is off Acre Lane near Bedford Road as that's where I used to live and have since moved, but my flatmate wants to sign up with a doctor and has asked me for details of one near our flat.

Can anyone help me?

Yeah, you want Brixton Hill Group Practice (http://www.gpinfo.com/ps/__prSW2-1AE.html), just across the Tulse Hill Estate. I'd guess I live about fifty yards from you (Appach Road) and it's where I go.

I'm with Dr Bennett who's at Brixton Hill Group Practice.

If you have any warts, they have a wart surgery :D

I used to be at the one right near Brockwell Park on Brixton Water Lane. My GP moved to Loughborough Junction and I moved with her. It used to be very annoying because they didn't do appointments, but I think that might have changed.

They're good at removing tongues of jokers as well :D

Thanks everyone....... i've passed the details of both Brixton Hill and the Water Lane Surgery on to him.......

......but since he's heterosexual and Chinese.....he was wondering if there's a straight Chinese only surgery...... ;)

Well there's lots of Chinese Herbalists up Streatham who will probably give him a discount if he can prove he really is Chinese :D

The water lane surgery opposite the hob is full up, which is a shame because they are very good, I hear. I tried to move there from the appalling Pavilion. And Brixton Hill had moved its boundaries so I was no longer in its catchment area. :(

I just this minute called them and they said it was fine for him to join.

They obviously didn't like the sound of my voice. :( :(

Can I have the number? I'll try them again.

The Hill or Water Lane?

I had a friend who used Water Lane one for years. He ended up needing quadruple heart by-pass as doctor didn't seem to be taking much notice of his health

Oh dear. But they can't be worse than Pavilion. Can they?

Me too. Pavilion are the worst, but living where I do, I don't think anyone else will have me. DC asked me recently whether my block of flats was very big, because everyone living there seems to be registered at Pavilion. I replied very pointedly that it is actually quite a small block, but we all have no choice but to go to Pavilion since Water Lane are closed for registrations.

Tel no is 020 7274 1521

She told me just to get my flatmate to come in and fill in a form, then a nurse would see him and do his height/weight etc..... she also said that they had two appointments free this afternoon!!

I think my surgery covers your area. It's on Herne Hill Road in Loughborough Junction. I've never had any problems. Tel: 7737 3928. Hendo registered recently without any fuss.

I just registered there this morning, so they are definately open for more patients. I was pleasantly impressed with what I saw. I particularly liked the being able to book drs appointments on internet - saves hanging on the phone for ages.

Ooh that's great to know. I have had it up to here <holds hand way up above shoulders> with Pavilion and their policy of not giving you an appointment for a fortnight in the hopes that you will have recovered by then.

I'm moving in a couple of days, but I'm not going very far so hopefully I will still be in their catchment! I'll give them a call once I'm settled into my new place.

Thanks Ms T!

cheers for this info people. I've been meaning to register with a doc for about 5 years - but seeing as I'm one of those annoying people who never gets ill, it's never been a priority. But I went along to the Brixton Hill Group practice last night, registered and had a doctor within about 5 mins. Considering my previous fruitless efforts to register, I am pleasantly amazed! :)

What is the best surgery in the centre of Brixton? Or is "best" a bit of a misnomer?

I tried a seach on this btw

I tried a seach on this btw I only know of one in Central Brixton. And that is Pavilion. (See threads passim).

'Best' is not an adjective I can ever imagine being applied to it. :(
