Time for the annual poetry competition at the albert, Sunday Nov 21st 5pm. Start sharpening those quills... (The attached image is crap quality, because i couldn't work out how to get the file small enough to post otherwise. Any tech heads want to help me, i could mail you a good quality picture to play round with. Thanks)

The last one was an absolutely fantastic night, but could the Albert sort out the fucking air conditioning?

It's like diving headlong into a full ashtray some nights....

Attaching images is hopeless. All you need to do is go to www.imageshack.us and upload the file. You don't even have to register. :)

Don't make it TOO big though!

I am so looking forward to this. It was fantastic last year.

The 21st is Anna Key's birthday as well! Perhaps I can persuade Andy B to pen a birthday ode? ;)

No worries.

see where it says

file: and there's a blank box? Click on the Browse button to the right of that window.

Then navigate to the file on your computer so the filename appears in the box.

Then click on the button underneath that says 'Host it! '

Then a new page appears with different boxes on it. Copy the text in the top one -- the one that says ......

Then just paste that line of text into your post on here and it links directly to the hosted pic on Imageshack.

OOOH! I just thought! Naughty Natasha is bound to turn up and recite her favourite explicit odes to her rude bits.

Vic will be so pleased.

I take it the incumbent won't be entering, seeing as he's a judge? (Mind you, this is Lambeth ;) ).

so what's the format of the event?

avenginangel
13-11-2004, 15:21
From what i remember, contestants put their names down on the list (last year there were 18 entered) and their performances are graded by the panel of judges, with the top 5 (i think) going through to the play-offs, and the bard being the one judged the best out of them. Not sure what the judging criteria is... But if you want to enter get there by 5pm, and make sure you know more than one poem, just incase you make the final stage.

just a word on the editors comment about the state of the albert..... I, more than anyone, AM TOTALLY P****D OFF with the current state of the PUB!! I have been on to the brewery for the last 8 months ( well since i got here in fact) about some investment in the place... The word back to me at the moment is that the company, who is now Green King and not Laurel pub Co, is on a zero spend policy.... which means that if the repairs are not 'buisness critical' then it doesn't get done!!!
At the moment the powers that be are conducting a survey of it's estate which is scheduled to be finished in January... Then I am lead to believe that they are looking at refurbishments etc!!!
As far as the extraction in the pub is concerned...... Although I am a smoker.. ( ONE WHO IS TRYING HIS BEST TO GIVE UP!!!) I find the extraction very very poor indeed!!! I sympathise with those who do not smoke and those ( including me and the staff).... or is it the staff and I?????? anyway, who have to sit in there and tolerate the awful smog!!!!
Again my apologies for the situation and believe me i am doing my best to try and get as much money spent on the place as possible.

I'd love to get another dose of Natasha and her gynaecological wordsmithery. Unfortunately, I'll be out of the country.

You can tell Greene bloody King from me that there are things in those toilets that are going to eat one of your customers before too long. And if that don't impact on business, I don't know what will.

Though you could always do a roaring trade with botanists keen to track down hitherto undiscovered greeblies.

I hope it was rather better than the open mic session I was unfortunate enough to witness at Mango Landin the other night. Dear God there was an absence of talent present.

It's a paradox. I'm far too hung over for any of that malarkey.

IntoStella

But not too hung over to spot this BEAUTY in a story I'm subbing about a regeneration project in Edinburgh:

John Haxworth, Associate of Hyland Edgar Driver, said: “It's a difficult site but it overlooks the Forth of Frith."

I would be very alarmed if that was what the architect said.

Honestly! What do we pay these people for?

Given the location, is it a subbing error or verbatim report following a few drams at the launch party...

The Leith police dismisseth us
They thought we sought to stay;
The Leith police dismisseth us
They thought we'd stay all day.
The Leith police dismisseth us,
We both sighed sighs apiece;
And the sighs that we sighed as we said goodbye
Were the size of the Leith police.

My mother used to jokingly call it the Fourth of Fifth but the Forth of Frith is a new one on me.
