View Full Version : SE24 - We are Brixton too!

I was feeling rather left out of the SW2/SW9 debate being as I am in SE24. I still consider myself a Brixtonian (and a proper one as Brixton was my manor growing up in Clapham and I live in HA so I am not posh!)
I am not Loughbrough Junction as there is no such place. It's just a station, and I am not Herne Hill as it's miles away.
Any other SE24ers want to stand up and be counted as Brixton?
Loughborough Junction is closer to Camberwell than Brixton.
You're Herne Hill and you know it. Be proud!
Bless. But you're not even in south west London!

Geographically, I don't think Brixton is either. It has a SW postcode, but (I think) is just fractionally to the south-east on the map.
Bless. But you're not even in south west London!
You heard, PO. Now just be grateful for small mercies.
SW postcodes are a badge of shame.

Indeed. Considering the much trailed 'realness' cherished by SW2ers, they'er strangely keen to align themselves with upmarket west.
Dreaming of Barnes and Putney, I have no doubt.
Sarf east london is where to be... properly grimy and generally bare nang. ;)
Why a decent SE person should want to cosy up to that lot is beyond me.
Apparently, Herne Hill is the geographic centre of London.

And then there's that massively posh three (five? ten?) monkeys place. And all your marvellous little delis. And a specialist shop selling ballet shoes for little Jemima. (I shit you not.) PAH!

SE24? It's a sleepy out of town land of lidos, yoga and parkland for toffs who find the real Brixton* too 'edgy' for their delicate tastes.
(*for the sake of anti-SE24 brotherhood, Brixton has now been unified in a new SW2 and SW9 coalition!)

To end the argument why don't we just say Brixton encompasses three postcodes and that each postcode adds it's own charm to Brixton as a whole.
End the argument?
SE24 adds charm, SW2 adds leaves, SW9 adds the heart.

What's more, we're about half a dozen doors down from being in SW2, and a stone's throw away from a certain Barrier Block, residence of our esteemed editor. To add to our Brixton credentials, we're in Coldharbour Ward, and our MP is Keith "the teeth" Hill.

I'm Herne Hill/Loughborough Junction, and very proud of it. We have lovely things, like ermmm......the Cambria, Ruskin Park and the Carneigie Library.
Although these days, of course, in estate-agent-speak, Loughborough Junction is now known as 'Lower Herne Hill'. Who'd of thought it?

Proper postcodes start "SE". And end with "5", "15", "14" or "1". Or possibly 8, 10 or 12 too.

The strange netherland, where the greedy thrusting tongue of SW2 :p snakes eastward down the hill to protrude into the arse-end of SE24, practically pinioning us spreadeagled hard against the fastnesses of SE21, helpless to resist SW2's ever more desperate, yet understandable, attempts to escape the unwanted attentions of southern Stockwell and eastern Cla'ham.
Actually, it's the house set back on the hill that seems to be always bathed in a milky black light, except for a 40 watt shaded red bulb. A windowsill naked save for a pair of 6" heeled red stilettos, back to back, bookmarked by a pair of matching fur-lined handcuffs.
