View Full Version : Murder In Brixton
A murder in Brixton late last night. I post this not so much to get comment going, more in the sense that this sort of thing ought to be marked.

The buses just weren't getting through Brixton this morning. I guess this is why. Shit.

"Squatters fight for homes
Squatters who have been living in south London for nearly 30 years are fighting to keep their homes.
Up to 150 people live in properties on St Agnes Place, Kennington, which includes the headquarters of the Rastafarian community.
But Lambeth Council now wants to reclaim the properties to turn them into social housing.
The squatters have been threatened with legal action but say they are prepared to use "direct action" to defend their homes."
A motorcycle courier was mugged at gunpoint last week on the corner of Coldharbour Lane and Atlantic Road - at 9 in the morning
Sadly, it seems such crimes aren't worth reporting in the mainstream media... if they happen in Brixton, of course.
The defence is that it's simply too widespread to be worthy of mention; you could fill hours of broadcast news and whole papers with it, every day.
I'm not sure it holds up. Surely the newsworthy point is that frightening crime IS so widespread.
At least we now have the internet, where people in a community, real or virtual, can fashion their own information supply and news agenda.
With regards to this story I saw it on the news this morning it seems the guy that died was only 20. :(
terrible news! i saw somethin on the traffic report this morning about road closures in Brixton n it must have been that. awful! :(
Here's what the Met said this morning:
We are appealing for information and witnesses to the murder of a man in Brixton Road, SW9 late last night (25.1.04).
Police were called by London Ambulance Service at about 23:58 last night to reports of a man having been shot outside an address on Brixton Road. The victim, a man in his early twenties was with his girlfriend, who was also shot.
It is believed the victims went into a shop on Brixton Road and that when they were leaving they were both shot.
Both were injured and taken by LAS to a South London hospital, where the man later died. The woman, who is in her late teens/early twenties, sustained injuries which are NOT life threatening.
It’s thought that several people may have been involved in the shooting. There are no further suspect descriptions available at present.
No arrests have been made at this early stage. Enquiries continue.
The murder is being investigated by Operation Trident. DCI Valentine will lead the investigation.
We are appealing for witnesses or anyone who can assist to contact the incident room on 020 8785 8056; if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Sounds like it could have just been a bit of hassle on the street. :(
May he R.I.P.
My thoughts to his family.
I hope his 18 year old girlfriend & baby are okay.
It 1st came on the news at about 1.00am on R5live as a traffic problem. I doubt the BBC would have bothered with it on the BBCLDN site if it wasn't for the traffic!!!. :(
What a waste of life.
The shop he had been in is a nice enough place, ie the Peeps who run it are friendly & I think this seems like chance rather than anything else.
He could be a neighbour, so my thoughts go out to all who might know him, especially his parents.
May his memories rest rather than cause confrontation.

It takes an exceptional type of moron to risk a 25 year sentance over a "bit of hassle". Sadly, there are enough said morons around to fill the prisons five times over, I fear. :(
They were targetted. Haven't got anything to say of much use about this. :(
Girlfriend sees lover shot dead (http://tinyurl.com/yqyua)
Information to the incident room on 020 8785 8056 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
For all the fucking good it will do. Another wall of silence for the police to have to deal with...
They still haven't caught the cunts who shot my mate on his own doorstep.
I hope they're already dead, to be honest, either a crack overdose or victims of their own gun law.

The stretch of road roughly between Robsart Street and Lorn Road was still closed off when i cycled past at 9.30am the next day - let's hope this indicates the seriousness the police are taking in terms of collecting evidence etc.
If they really were "targeted" then surely the girlfriend must know something? Shouldn't speculate I suppose, it just fuckin awful that some people are willing to shoot each other to settle a dispute.

It's all about at the moment - a friend of a friend (who manages a well-known Brixton bar just up the road from the last incident) got stabbed and seriously hurt by a furious coked up ex-employee - and the police still haven't been arse to arrest him

It was closed till the afternoon. It's almost as unpleasant during the day as at night and has been for years. There's a great mixture of rage on the road and hassle on the pavement.

With regards to media coverage, two people were shot dead in the low cost food and wine shop just down from me on sunday. The first thing I knew was when I went to the next door shop and saw two bored coppers standing guard outside.
