fantastic - it does actually look like the artists impression. That must have been unveiled today no? as I didn't notice it this morning. Progress at last... or maybe something just to make us feel good in advance of the 3 week closure :(

won't recognise the place when all that blue hoarding comes down. Will probably walk straight past thinking it's Sainsburys or WH Smiths:rolleyes:

that's not an underground sign, it's a target.

then again, the blue in the roundel kinda matches the hoarding. Maybe we should keep the hoarding:D

we could ask David Blaine to go sit up there and we can have a bit of target practice
And for those who missed it, here's my impression about how the tube will look, 10 mins after opening:

My "industry source" who reckons up to five weeks for closure said that the new building above the steps is the only part of the project on schedule!
Apparently, several engineering companies are being paid for doing nothing keeping their project teams together while waiting for the closure to begin.
I obviously don't read things properly, but when does the closure start? I'll probably read about this today if I drop into the Brixton tube station anyway right?

closes on the night of Saturday 20th November apparently

I think it looks really good.

Only 13 more days to go then? :p
Eh? I've been to brixton tube and used it since then - many times - so confusing.

BOLLOX! Sorry, 20 DECEMBER:rolleyes: :p :D
It looks good but would be better if the LU roundel thing was suspended behind the glass and lit, as in the artists impression. As it is the roundel is just a big sticker, which may not last.
Mike - that pic is hilarious!!!:D Spot on.
I think the new logo looks rather cool actually! But as Hatboy says, how long will it last?
I'm sure they've opened it up in anticipation of the closure as a kind of 'sweetner', haven't they....

This has got to be the biggest underground logo I have ever seen. Best of all, munted urbanites will be able to find the station more easily after nights of full-on Albert quaffage.
"Munted urbanites" - sorry I don't speak Albertese. Are they like mint imperials?
Welcome back to the Brixton Forum btw. :)

i've been in that sign making industry, and the 'sticker' is garunteed to last 7 years at least.
i'd be suprised if what has been used isnt a higher grade, which would last longer.
Is there some kind of Travel card index, much like the stock exchange? How do the ticket dealers know how much to buy and sell them for?

It may be closing on the 20th but the ticket office is closing on the 10th (at least that's what a sign I saw this evening said). So you can use the station but not buy a ticket (unless you've got a season etc).......I'm sure there's a logic !
Gotta say it does look nice - very eyecatching :)

Looks like the new central escalator is almost ready to go too.
So we'll have a fully operational, brand spanking new station just in time for the closure.

Er, sadly no - it's the need to run a new power supply cable to work this escalator that led to them finding the asbestos!

it's the need to run a new power supply cable to work this escalator that led to them finding the asbestos! he he, a good headline there: LUL install new escalator but forget to plug it in :D

Unfortunately, they managed the same trick at Tottenham Court Road a few years ago - brand spanking new escalator remained unusable for six(?) months as they had to route the power cable down the tube tunnels to an adjacent station AIRC!
So the ticket counters are closed but why do they have to close the machines as well?????

I assume the staff cannot work there anymore because of the potential asbestos dust (of course it's fine for you commuters to breathe it?!), and though largely automated the machines still need people to empty/fill them with coins and ticket rolls.
At least it means the kiosk is doing a roaring trade!
And the Travelcard touts...

I was actually on the lookout for a tout, because the kiosk queue was a bit long.
But there were none to be found?

Just get on the train without a ticket and buy one at your destination instead - this is perfectly legitimate to do. If you're lucky, you might find that the gates are open at your destination - hey presto, gratis xmas tickets, courtesy of LUL, to ease the pain of all the brixton station shenanigans :)
Yeah, the Ed and a mate did that last Friday from Brixton to Camden Town :D
