View Full Version : Car parking in central Brixton (evenings) - info please!
After one band's van got towed away, I'd like to be able to advise bands where it's safe to park a car/van close to the Albert at night.
Any suggestions please?
(I'll move this thread into general later on seeing as the Brixton forum is open to the public - and we don't want every 'erbert making use of the insider knowledge!)

if i need to, i park between windrush sq and the ritzy (can't remember the name of the road) - feels pretty safe - but space is an issue.
otherwise it'd be an unload on the hazard lights (yes, i know, db!) and then park it round on effra rd or one of those.

unload on the hazard lights I think there's a parking camera on Coldharbour, opposite the Albert outside that place that was squatted (can't rememeber the name but I remember someone saying they got had whilst dropping a heater off). Just to complicate things, like.
None of my online resources are being very helpful, execpt to tell me that Somerleyton Road (hardly 'safe') is the nearest place with no parking restrictions at all,http://www.lambeth.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/4BDDCCD2-123A-4EF5-98AC-D234BBF823BC/0/CPZmap_170806.pdf and the local multistorey closes at 11.30. I can't even find the restriction hours for the local residents parking zones online, which is rubbish.
I would never, ever recommend that people park up on Somerleyton!

I'm fairly sure the local parking restrictions apply 8:30-5:30 so you shouldnt have any problems in one of the controlled parking zone areas.
Couldnt you drop the stuff off and then park in one of the residential roads North of there - somewhere like Wiltshire Road, Villa Road, St Johns Crescent etc

Depending what you mean by close to the Albert. You can leave cars after five thirty along Kellet Road or any of the ajoining avenues. My mate's had his broken into twice and we've been here a year. Does that count as safe. Admittedly the first time he had his Sat-nav showing.
you used to be able to park in the dotted red boxes on the west of St Matthews Church, oppposite the Fridge - maybe you still can
i gpt done by the TFL red route camera at the top of CHL dropping someone off for the tube.
the fuckers
are there any marked loading bays? i cant remember.

Loading bays on Atlantic Road, by the train station. Plenty of people walking past as well (rather than an alley somewhere)
I generally go for Rushcroft/Brighton Terrace/Trinity Gardens. You have to watch the bays though - some are ok to park from 6pm and some from 8pm.
Ed - I've prob got a spare residents visitors pass knocking about if you need one as I live in the central Brixton zone :)

Your best next move is to go out on an evening, preferably the same night of the week you want to hold your event and check out which of those places have space. Ironically it is far easier to do this sort of thing on foot/pushbike than in a car, and you can stop and look at road markings and restriction plates at will. Any you need decoding, one of us will be able to. Be careful though- you might get as sad as me :D
Might be worth checking out the unloading situation at the Albert too, rememberin that stopping on a red route (other than in a loading box) or in a bus stop is an *absolute* no-no, even for a second. The staff might be able to help too, if any of them drive to work.
(Sorry if I'm stating the obvious with any of this....I only say this as IIRC you don't drive)
Oh and I think it is fucking ridiculous the muliti-storey car park in Brixton closes at 11.30pm, although a van proberbly wouldn't fit in there anyway.
I've parked in Rushcroft Road in the evenings with no bother. :)
