Anyone know what this building is?

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3103/2750096927_64040c5669.jpg?v=0

I saw it from the top deck of the 45 as it went past Brixton Police Station. It's in the back garden of the houses on the opposite side of the road. I just can't work out what on earth it is

Doesn't really matter tbh, I'm just being nosey :o

It's where they used to hold Registry Office ceremonies

I hope the roof was in better nick then?

I can't remember, I'm only 5ft 1. :o

I remember the carpets being in desperate need of a good clean though.

Grubby is an understatement and look how bleak it is if you want to take pictures outside :(

Anyway, I don't want to offend Mrs Magpie so I'm shutting up :o

It is grim

And I like concrete :o

Hope the new register office is an improvement. Don't see how it can be much worse though...

Yes, I was thinking it probably hadn't aged well. Glad to hear it was looking better for your nuptials Mrs M :)

Mrs Magpie
10-08-2008, 20:12
Also, the outside wasn't being used as a car park and it was full of flowering plants and shrubs.

I was merely repeating what she told you :o:p

If you want to send me PMs asking how many centuries ago that was, it's not up to me to divulge your thoughts

Would be interesting to see what it looked like when it was cared for.

I heard a rumour that someone stole all the copper/lead from the roof under the sight of the whole of Lambeth Police's borough command whose offices overlook the garden from the offices above Brixton Police station.

But this could just be a new urban myth in the making and the tarps might just be to cover up leaks due to the joints never having been renewed in 30 years. :D

I was bridesmaid (ummmmm!) and remember it clearly.

I wouldn't say it was light and airy exactly, but it wasn't too bad. It had smoked glass windows though, which I disapproved of even as a small child </snob>.
I don't know when they expanded the car park next to it, and hadn't actually realised they had, but there were definitely some nice gardeny bits.

Mrs Magpie

I hope you're not doing Enid's? :hmm:

Mrs Magpie
11-08-2008, 14:51
No, she does her own. Death Metal Magpie has just thrown loads of clothing down the stairs that he picked up off his floor. He did however help me plumb it in and manhandle the machine across the floor. I had to do the unpacking though because he has a polystyrene phobia (fiendishly honed by Enid  ).

How old is Death Metal Magpie then? Does he know how to open door of washing machine? :hmm:

Mrs Magpie
11-08-2008, 15:07
He's 18 and he's a stranger to the ways of washing clothes, let alone putting them away :(
Mind you, I'm still getting to grips with the programmes on this new machine.

Not to worry, my b/f's a grown man and he just leaves them on floor of kitchen as he doesn't know the difference between the washer and tumbler :D

Mrs Magpie
11-08-2008, 19:51
My boy leaves clothes everywhere. When he got in from work today he stripped off as he always does, (he's spent 18 years flinging off his clothes, I have series of photos of him as a toddler starting fully clothed and ending up naked, even in bitter weather). His trainers were in the hall, his work shirt on the living room floor, along with his jeans. His socks and hoodie were on the kitchen floor and shortly afterwards he flung loads of clothes down the stairs for washing.

Moving house has nothing to do with it! :D

Anyway they weren't big hilarious fluffy numbers - all the bridesmaids were little girls so we got matching cotton sun dresses. Nothing to see there.
