Anyone else seen the Acre Lane/Coldharbour Lane/Hight St/Hill Junction? It is crawling with Police doing a witness appeal about the accident last week. I don't think I've ever seen so many Police there unless there is shit going down or about to go down......

BTW the traffic is pretty bad cos they're stopping almost every car that goes past

There's a vigil thingy supposed to be going on right now, so that would explain the heavy police presence.

No signs of a vigil going on and the vast majority of police were handing out witness appeal leaflets and asking questions to the effect of 'were you here last tuesday and did you see anything?'

Maybe they thought that witnesses would be likely to attend the vigil? It was definitely meant to be happening at 5 today.

Or maybe the leaflets are just an excuse to turn out in hordes?

Good tactic, a bit obvious, but much less offensive than turning out in hordes with blatent crowd-control purposes.

I think the rain will prevent anything shit going down. I'm glad the pigs seem to be investigating this more than the usual anyway. It should be a matter of time before the driver is charged (in theory). His defence will have a ball with the credibility with some of the witnessess however so not expecting a conviction.

Going up Brixton Hill on the bus, I passed a small crowd of people - maybe 20 - walking along the pavement, police front and back, looking like some form of protest march/vigil ... it looked to me like they had started at the prison.

Is that what you perhaps refer to? It would certainly tie in with the rest of it.

The police presence down outside the tube station/Ritzy was definitely excessive ... causing so much delay and disruption due to their stopping and asking pretty much anyone if they knew anything.

Dear police, here's a clue... if people wanted to tell you something, they'd have done so without needing to be stopped ... if they don't, stopping them and asking them isn't likely to get a result.

Maybe they figured there was going to be disruption anyway what with the roadworks so used it as an opportunity?
