accomidation in Bangkok

My Mum and her Partner are staying in Bankok for a few days at the end of Jan - I've been before and stayed around the ko san road area - but looking for somewhere a bit more suitable for a 60 year old. She has MS so isn't that mobile - where would you folks recommend? they probably want a 3/4 star place near to transport links....

Depends on how much they can pay? Siam Square might be a good area - about twenty mins in a tuk tuk from Khao San & right near the skytrain & big shopping centres and things.
But the budget ones are about 400-500b and the mid-range ones 2000 or so baht. There's Asia hotel (on Th Rathchathewi) and apparently attracts older backpackers with fatter wallets but is about 2000b.

Oh :( I'm so envious of your mum right now. I stayed on Soi Rambuttri, round corner from Khao San last week. In Wild Orchid... paid around 550 baht per night (I was at the end of a very budget trip & wanted air con & hot water for the last few days & so that's what I got :)). I liked it there. Only in the more expensive rooms though - two weeks before, the really cheap room gave me the worst bedbugs ever!

Have a look on asiarooms.com for some good deals in the 3-4 star bracket.

Two of my faves if I'm not in the KSR area are Century Park Hotel - a bit more upmarket at around £30-£40 a night but it's 5* ffs, transport links not too good though (it's nearish to tastebud's suggestion of Siam Square but 10 mins walk to a skytrain to there) - or the Mandarin Hotel at around a tenner. Mandarin's v god value, 100 yards from an underground station, and quiteclose to excellent Patpong shopping and ping-pong shows ;)
