View Full Version : Which Bridge?
When you go back an forth between Wales and the big boy next door which bridge do you use? When I go to England I use the new bridge but I like to come back over the old bridge. There's less of a queue at the tolls, fewer lorries, I feel nostalgic for a lovely bridge and it's a beautiful view.
Do you use the new bridge both ways or do you pick and choose? Is there a difference in time/distance?

New bridge every time. Why make a detour to use the old one?
New bridge. the old one scares me the way it wobbles.

What's that other country next door again? Can't remember the name right now, but whichever is easiest to get on from the M4!
Bit south-wales-centric there! I usually cross the border somewhere between Welshpool and Shrewsbury.

North Wales is the real Wales. South Wales is just a rubbish part of England.

Just because because Bristol's got no good bridges... haha. What's that? Clifton? Oh sorry.:) :p

given that the original Severn Bridge is entirely in England, I don't think Wales has any claim over it :p

I love the old bridge it's beautiful. When I was a nipper and I saw photos of the Golden Gate Bridge I used to think that looks just like the bridge we went over the other day.
When I come back over it now I'm amazed at how narrow the lanes are and the road surface is terrible but I still love it. It's the Julie Christie of bridges always beautiful.

why? Its a straight road . I dont understand why anyone would want to add 10 mins to their journey or use the extra petrol. Its not poarticularly 'lovely' its a big suspension bridge, and oooh look, theres another big suspension bridge...
But still if youve got money to burn... Your choice

The old bridge is actually quicker...but only coz its always empty on that road & you can put your foot down....not that I would advocate speeding mind you..!!
But as to my favourate bridge....
.....well that has to be Jeff Bridges !! lol

I saved myself a long wait in a tailback for the new bridge, by bailing out at some junction on the approach from the welsh side, and a 5-10 min drive up to the old bridge. Bear in mind, traffic-jam-avoidance fans.
North Wales is lovely - its just wasted on the gogs and scousers :p

I go over the new bridge every day - seems more direct to me. And when the weather's bad its not TOO scary - unlike the old bridge!
