I was reading about a regeneration scheme for the Herne Hill junction, but does anyone know what is due to happen to the former sorting office and the old BP station next to it? Has any work started or does planning exist yet. I read somewhere that Sainsburys were due to build a bigger store there, but that might just be tittle tattle.

Thanks for that, but aren't those from 2005 and relating to a post office a few doors away. As for the delivery office that closed in June and the BP station, no planning comes up. I guess the Sainsbury's rumours must be just rumours. They wouldn't waste any time getting planning in.

Work's certainly started. There's a concrete super structure there now (to the left of Sainsburys).

that's not the old sorting office, though. The OP is talking about the two lots to the right of sainsburys - the old sorting office and the old petrol station.

Personally, I'd like it to be a tower homes, keyworker housing development - but that's just my own selfish motives...:o

Ah yes, sorry I'm getting my left and right (and developments) confused... Can't argue with key homes though.

have they started the development? if so the development has commenced and the permission thus implemented even if they dont have the finished building there. funny quirk of the planning system i'm afraid. do you think sainsburys would be that dense?

 sorry lost me dense enough for what? To spend millions to build a new headquarters and then move out to Kings Cross do you mean?

don't know if this is related to that scheme, but council is intending to slice off 1000 square metres of Brockwell Park so that the traffic can flow more smoothly around it at the HH junction. Friends of Brockwell Park (google for web site) are against it, but The Herne Hill Society (google too) are in favour.

"council is intending to slice off 1000 square metres of Brockwell Park so that the traffic can flow more smoothly around it at the HH junction"

Yeah, so it can be queued up for even longer at the next junction (Brixton Water Lane and Effra Road/Tulse Hill).
