Plaid Cymru has called a demonstration for this Friday outside Transport House in Cathedral Road, Riverside, Cardiff to protest at the closure of post offices in South Wales. The gathering will begin at 4.15pm.
Plaid Riverside Councillor Mohammed Islam said,
“ We want the government to hear our message loud and clear: save our post offices! We will gather outside the home of New Labour in Wales because they are the people responsible for this destruction of local services. We have had enough of the weasel words of some politicians trying to deflect attention away from what their own party is doing.”
All are welcome including other parties.
Well pissed off that they're closing all the post offices in Splott. I use mine a couple of times a week and the elderly lady who lives next door will be well fucked.
Funny though I've seen campaigns on this from plaid, the libs and labour.

There was a load of protesters outside the welsh national assembly government buildings today, they certainly got their voices heard. I thought there was a rugby match on or something, got my head round the corner and saw about 40 oldish guys with placards of some echo headlines and shouting all together.. something about gorden brown stole their pensions..
Check the echo tomorrow, I'm sure they were there taking pics of the whole thing!
Anything that gets them heard/seen/written about.
Most likely ex-ASW workers, which I am one of.
We got made redundant 5 years back without any redundancy payments and they stole or pensions as well. the government should have had the pensions protected, but are ducking their responsibilities.
I lost 13 years of contributions - they owe me about £30k in pension and redundancy payments, but there were lads their for 40+ years who lost far more. some have died since without seeing a penny.
the government is now coughing up about 80% of the pension contributions but we're still fighting for all of what we paid in.

The ASW workers are a brave bunch of people, they've never given up and all power to them.
Yeah I think all the political parties are fighting to save the post officers, it's a Post Office managerial decision, not a government decision. Although the Westminster government could intervene, or decide not to cut the Post Office's subsidy. The Post Office keeps a huge network unprofitable offices open through a taxpayers subsidy which is something like £100 million, not really a vast amount in government terms considering the amoutn of money that is blown on other things.
Not just the Post Office anymore. According to the latest tv ads it's The People's Post Office now. Shame they can't keep branches open so the people have access to their post office.

Read in the Western Mail that the post office closures are being put on hold because of the elections in May 2008

Takes the piss. They've forgotten what the words 'public service' mean.
