Have I been unlucky or has it been shit recently?
I have stuff arriving a week late for the past month or so - never had any problems before
Streatham is appaling at the moment.
Maybe the posties have decided to stop nicking the stuff that looks promising and nick everything.
Streatham is appaling at the moment.
The Post Office closed last Wednesday didn't it?
:(
Very sad.
Wasn't it going to go to WH Smith's (upstairs!)?

I had someone phone up today to say they'd had something returned 'premises not accessible'
And week before last I had 1 piece of mail all week, even though I was expecting a few things. but for one, they've now all come.

Something Amazon posted me on 6 November finally turned up last Friday, a mere 10 days late. The only good thing was Amazon had already written it off as lost, refunded me and told me to keep it if it ever turned up!
Could it be anything to do with those strikes earlier in the month? If so it hasn't affected the unsolicited barrage of catalogues, consolidation loan letters, etc which we are subjected to on a daily basis.

we got a letter through the door the other day entitled "royal mail farce" inviting you to join an online forum to complain about post not arriving in east dulwich.
seeing as it's affecting a few places, maybe it is still a backlog from the strikes?

There was a backlog of stuff in all postal districts following the dispute, but the service in SW2 (Brixton Hill, Streatham Hill, Tulse Hill) seemed to recover better than other adjacent districts.
After some enquiries about what happened to a mailshot to several hundred people in Lambeth, half of whom still hadn't received them last week, I was told there was a separate "wildcat" action in SW16 (Streatham, Norbury, Furzedown)- local management refused to allow posties to carry mailbags in their own cars - and that there were still "container loads" of undelivered mail in that postal district. Not sure which other postal districts had similar "unofficial" strike action, but I'm hearing anecdotally that bits of SW9 and SW4 seem to have some ongoing deliverty backlog.

Well, I'm SW9, and I have a missing Lovefilm DVD, but more importantly, I have some contact lenses which should be here by now. It's getting annoying avoiding ill-defined blobs on the road, whilst cycling to work

Very funny
CWU is running a 'work to rule' campaign at the moment, which means a lot of stuff is getting delayed. Inconvenient for some but to be honest Royal Mail is no longer run for the benefit of ordinary people. Business mail is the priority for management, thats why 'do you want a loan' type letters are getting delivered first not parcels.

I did that last year so they put a mail monitor on my post for about six weeks during the Christmas period
Wasn't it going to go to WH Smith's (upstairs!)?
Yep. There's apparently 1 million items at the Streatham Sorting Office waiting to be delivered! I just got 3 Private Eye's in one day :D but also  and

I'm in SE24. We've had post in dribs and drabs since the strike. Yestersday we got a whole mountain of packages that we had been waiting for for ages.

Hard to tell really as I started getting things delivered to work instead :D
I've still not received my photo paper and printer cable for the printer I got at Christmas. The last time that was seen or "tracked" was in the Mitcham depot.
I gave up trying to find out where it was

I'm in Streatham Common, I got 2 Time Outs from mid October the other day - It's picking up though, I received last weeks copy only 2 days after the listings expired. Had to pack in my subscription as I have only received one copy in time in the last two months.
It's really haphazard, considering theres a backlog and I'm receiving ancient post why am I getting post only 3 times a week?
Also received a bank statement today which details September's transactions which is useful, last months phone bill which was paid by DD 10 days ago.
I also got a refund from Amazon, ordered the Pusher trilogy DVD in September, arrived late Oct.
Absolute shite, fuck knows when my contact lenses will turn up.
It's been mentioned for the last few weeks in the free papers stuffed through my door which arrive each Wednesday without fail - maybe those distributors should deliver the mail too?
am SW2 and still waiting on a load of expected stuff (sent post-strike) - it's taking 7-10 days at the moment... was never that good at the best of times though to be fair.

There's definitely something going wrong, I posted something in September that had to go to Croydon, it's still lost in the post somewhere.

I completely gave up on Royal Mail at home years ago. Just too unreliable. And inconvenient. Who can wait around at home to sign for a parcel / letter?
I just get everything sent to work. There's always someone around, and we *know* our postie, and what time the deliveries will be.

I get most things sent to work but DVDs had a habit of going missing, so they get delivered home

It appears the main reason we haven't been getting mail is because the tradesman's entrance hasn't been working....
Wasn't it going to go to WH Smith's (upstairs!)?
The Post Offices are being sold off.The "Royal" Mail and WH Smith deal is because WH Smith staff are being paid less. Many POs are being closed in business area like the west end. They never were intended to be profitable but a public service. The "Royal Mail" like "British" Telecom is slowly being privatised or "out sourced".
It correct that items get lost but this is not always Royal Mails fault.See the recent case of TNT "losing" two computer discs. As someone in Royal Mail told me european wide deregulation of mail will lead to TNT etc concentrating on easy to deliver business mail.Delivery/courier firms also pay their workface badly with poor conditions. As the head of RM says the private sector pays 25% less.
However as my friend in RM says the private firms wont want to take over the infrastructure that RM has built up -especially the large sorting offices. They cost to much to run.The private firms use them but will expect government to subsidise that aspect of mail. They want to deliver the easy business mail and dump the rest on the RM sorting offices.RM are obliged to deliver this at a set price even though they know the private firms charge more.
Amazon dont use RM -but I notice one poster has already blamed RM for lack of delivery. However much people complain about RM I can assure u that it wont be any better when its all "deregulated".Especially if ur a private mail sender. My advice to people is to still use Royal Mail to send stuff. You might think paying a private company more is better but it wont mean it gets there any quicker.I know

And who would that be? Nasty person
It was Mark28790 or something like that. The point was that I dont think people realise that a lot of mail already is not delivered by RM.

It was me as well ;)
So it's Parcel Force?

Only 99% of mail is delivered by RM. When it says TNT or UK mail on your letter that means it was delivered by them from the printers to the main sorting office thats all.
Amazon not using RM. I wish!!

It is practically impossible to guess whether they will use RM or a courier company if you have opted for faster delivery.
All items destined for UK addresses are dispatched by First Class post, HDNL, Parcelforce or DHL Express. It's not possible to choose exactly which carrier we use for your order. However, if the order qualifies, you can opt for free Super Saver Delivery.
The free Super Saver delivery is presumably all with the new contactor.

Yep it was definately royal mail that earlier Amazon order. Got my headphones I ordered the other day within two days though. It appears to be improving by the day now.
I only use free delivery with Amazon cos I is tight.
recent experience (this month):
1 Item lost in the system and never arrived (sent Via TNT)
1 item missing presumed lost for 10 days after postage (sent out via TNT who enventually found it and then "repurposed " it to Royal mail for the actual delivery bit)
2 items ordered last week - the second ordered at 4pm on thursday. Both were delivered 9am the next day (Royal Mail)
so from the above, it appears that RM ain't all that bad
But I agree Brixton colelction office is a shambles
I've been waiting nearly 2 months for an item from the US. According to the USPS tracking it's sitting in a sorting office waiting to be delivered.
Time to cross US (via truck) from San Fran: 2 days
Time to cross Atlantic from New Jersey: 2 days
Time sitting in sorting office half a mile from flat: 41 days

Does anyone know what times Royal Mail sorting office on Blenheim Gardens open?
(have a very-very-very important package to collect - according to the porter, the special delivery guy never came even if he says he did).

Still an 8.00am start at Blenheim Gardens AFAIK (although bizarrely one of the two cards I got delivered this week had no local details printed on it at all)

My postie in SW2 has hit on an interesting way of speeding up delivery: get me to do it. Half the post that arrives through my letterbox is to the wrong address, frequently to the wrong street, so I trudge round and put it through the right doors for him. Yesterday evening I received my post, which had been wrongly delivered further up the street, so it looks like he's now enlisted more unpaid volunteer help.

Yep, happens to us too!
Mind you, our postie of ten years left in november, and we've had an assortment of casuals and overtime bandits, although it looks like there's a rookie postie on our route now.
