Has anyone gone to the dentist for treatments in Poland or another Eastern European country?
I'm thinking of getting some work done while I am there next year.
Can this thread also apply to orthodontics?
kthxbi :)
Yes I have and the work although basic (check up and plaque removal) was good and very cheap. You need to inform yourself beforehand though I had the advantage of having a Polish gf at the time and I used the practise where she always went.

Every Polish person I know goes back to Poland because 1) they're cheaper and 2) they're better
It sounds like their work is also guaranteed

I got a check-up in Germany when I was last there with my wife (who's German). He offered to pull out my wisdom teeth for next to nothing on the spot, but I decided not to wreck the rest of my holiday by having to eat through a straw. Still, very impressive, cheap, and clean. Made my dentist here look medieval.

Funnily enough, I'm going to the dentist in Bulgaria in a week next Monday. I'll let you know how I get on.
I'm initially going for a checkup and then if I need any major work doing which can't get done in a day, I'll go back and get it done. When I'm sorted, I'm planning to go on denplan insurance and get any major work done back in the UK if its more convenient.
I had a tooth implant last year in Poland….and although it was cheaper, nicer & more professional than at home, ive had some prob and simply cant afford to keep flying back to Poland to get them rectified.
Basically im left with a good implant but the crown doesn’t stay in place. Been re-cemented here twice (swallowed it once)!! i have to use denture adhesive to hold it in place, mmm, im always popping it back in!! And all I am told by my polish dentist is that I would have to come back and they can see what they can do (and that’s with a polish speaking partner!)
My advice is have work done in Poland if its simple or if you are going to save thousands!!! and can afford the time and money to pop back if needed. (to get new crown and have it re-cemented is TWO trips)
The shopping was good tho!
PS I went to a top dentist.

I'm just back from Serbia. 10 crowns, a bridge, a root canal and an implant coming in at about £1300 compared to £1500 minimum just for the implant here. Done 3 visits so far. one for assessment, some temporary/emergency bits and put the implant in my jawbone, then 2 visits in the last month to get castings then fitting of crowns. Good dentist, certainly trust him as much as any of the 10 dentists I've had in london over the years, and a damn sight more than many of them! Flights and accommodation too of course.
I would recommend him but he doesn't speak English, which made one of my trips, made without my serbian friend a bit tricksy!
I'd recommend going to Croatia, somewhere on the coast in the summer!
I was given these details... but decided to stick to the dentist I'd started with.

I can't say whether they are good or not but they apparently speak English. :)

Bit of a de-rail, but a dentist here has just treated my wife for a root canal, took three trips including the initial consultation and treatment for an abcess. The total cost was 120€. This is, I'm told, a bit expensive. The English of the woman was of a very high standard (apparently dentists here have to speak English to qualify, I have a student studying for exactly this reason.)

So fellow dental tourists, an update from me.
I just got back from Sofia, Bulgaria and had my teeth checked and a filling fixed for a grand total of £8. Genius.
It was brilliant, the surgery looked like some old house from the outside, typical old looking style Sofia townhouse. But inside it was as good as any dentist I've been to in the UK. No registration required. A quick 15 minute job - had my teeth checked, filling plugged and I was out before I knew it. I guess I'm quite fortunate I have fairly good teeth so no major work required.
Like Papingo, I did need the help of my Bulgarian friend for translation purposes but I'm sure I could have managed without if I really needed. I'd definitely go back at that price.

presumably if all you needed was a check up and a filling, the flights would negate any saving...... I presume you would have gone there for a holiday anyway. :)

Yes, the dentist was just an extra. I wouldn't have flown especially unless I was going to save serious money :)
