What's up with the Swan pub then? Went past this afternoon and the place was definitely shut, with all traces of emerald green and pub signage torn off the facia.
Is this the end of Stockwell's premier venue for cover bands and all round awfulness?
(edited to correct annoying typo)
I hope not! It's a south London institution. I used to live opposite and found myself wandering in there on the way home on quite a few occasions.

No idea, but it looked pretty darn shut today. Maybe it's just inbetween facias, but there was no sign of life (worryingly) from within.
Their website suggests that a major refurb is taking place.

They've been doing it up for ages, it had scaffolding up which just came down a week or so ago. Now they're doing the inside and I am mourning the end of the Spanish hacienda style artex 'n' arches 1970s interior which are surely being put to the sword even as I type. I used to enjoy taking sophisticated design-ey types in there - I thought they'd feel ill but they usually ended up cooing and billing over the authentic kitsch. On the basis of this I managed to convince a friend that Artex ceilings were going to be the coolest thing in town any month now. If they'd just had the courage to keep it a few years longer it could have been the trendiest pub in London.
Mind you the carpets were a bit on the sticky side.

They've replaced all the old windows upstairs haven't they?
Working there was one of my first introductions into the sad world of ligging and the music 'industry'. Spent many a fun night in there (and then the flat on the top floor) you get cracking views towards the river if memory serves me right.
