for a fairly small job.
I want some small stage blocks made, sort of cubes about 500mmx500mm, but with a lip. anyway, i know what I mean, and i can draw it.
Does anyone know someone who would take on the job? I can afford maybe £200 out of the budget - and I'd want as many as they could make for that. And they'd have to be cool with invoicing the school after making them.
I'm putting this in Brixton forum, cos the school's in East Dulwich / Peckham Rye - but if you know a chippy further out who wouldn't mind delivering them to the school, that'd be cool too.
TIA

Unfortunately you might find it difficult to find someone to do that for £200 ... I'd be surprised if you could get more than two or three made up for that price.
If it were me, and I had £200 to spend, I'd work out what size bits of material (MDF or plywood perhaps?) you would need to make them up, and how many, then go down to B&Q, get them to cut them for you (they'll normally do this for free if you're buying the material from them), then glue them together myself.
That can easily turn into a couple of days' work, though, hence the reason I'm saying it might be hard to get it all done for £200...
Are people going to be standing on them. I reckon gluing them together wouldn't be a great idea. Get it wrong and someone could get hurt and then it all goes pearshaped.

exactly so. they'd need screwing.
two or three would be fine. buy some more with each year's budget, innit.

Why don't you go to the joinery shop on Northcross Road in East Dulwich?
They are quite cheap.
If you make your own, Merton Timber is very cheap for timber.

wouldn't a shop want money over the counter, as opposed to invoicing us - or am i being really thick?

It's at times like this I wish I lived near my dad, or my dad near me (in this instance) Having a joiner dad who built your childhood home himself would be really useful... and he's the community spirited type. Always giving his time up for free. :(

Why :( , I think that's
It's nice being part of a good community.

And my dad is verrrrrry cool, He's 74 and still runs the annual hill race and when my sister and hubbie were moving all the 30 year old office workers were desperately trying not to be outdone by his box shifting abilities (they failed), and he's man enough to carry his granddaughter around in a pappoose. :)

Have you tried asking in the DIY shop in Herne Hill. I know the guys who used to run the timber mill next door would have done that for you, no probs. Don't know what they're up to now (the mill is closed), but they might be able to put you in touch/suggest something.

me ex's dad does these sort of things.
he's not a specialist chippy or anything - just been doing odd jobs all his life. he's good with his hands and has fixed up a couple of houses, build furniture etc for his family and surrounding community.
he lives off clapham park and should be able to deliver.
PM if interested.
cos he's a sound bloke.

I cycled through Loughborough junction today and saw the carpentry place there again. Just down from the Green Man. You could add that to your options?
There's also a furniture maker bloke in the corridor behind Herne Hill train station (under the herne hill train arches) just down from where the Joiners wholesale place is, he gave me a reasonable quote on some record boxes in the past... or go for ^^^ that bloke above...
