It's a bit on the wrong side of Brixton for you maybe but the Grosvenor on Robstart Rd/Sidney Road just between Stockwell Rd and Brixton Rd has quite a big room out the back with a separate bar, been to a couple of nice music events there.

The Nag's Head?

They put on a lovely spread for Rodney and Cassandra:D

Upstairs at the Dogstar?
Maybe the front room at JAMM (if it's not a weekend)?
Canterbury Arms (if it's not a weekend)?

Try for upstairs at the Dogstar. It's a lovely room and well suited to a wedding reception. As I imagine you'll be getting there early, your guests won't have to battle through a packed downstairs. You might even be able to sort out a different entrance. I still have a vague memory of a side door from years ago....

what about the back room at the Southside (ex- George IV)?

It's very spangly! Could be worth a look!

haven't been in there to have a look but they don't always seem to have nights on at the weekend

another idea is Negril; they can do functions and you can bring in your own booze

And, of course, if anyone needs to hire a PA for the event...

Not a pub but would be a perfect venue for a wedding reception - Cafe Van Gogh on Brixton Rd - good size for what you want too- please see my posts on this thread:

Try Southside on Brixton hill, recently and nicely refitted (apart from the toilet) they haven't quite found their groove yet so might have a good deal..

I had a look when it first opened. It's a nice backroom. Very spangly, very glittery, lots of silver and disco pizzazz.

You could try the Hootahob. Their smaller, used to be main bar, was distinctly shit, I mean shut, last Saturday. And that was when they had one of their most popular bands on - the 5 piece drums, silly tartan blankets and bearded bagpipe combo called Saor Patrol. Quite an amusing night.

You could try The Sun and Doves... on Coldharbour Lane. It's a really good venue for a party, good interior, smart/casual, people who have weddings there always love it. http://www.sunanddoves.co.uk photo here: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/102/314770372_abc790e4ed_b.jpg

Call 7733 1525 ask for Nicky or Mark. There's no private room as such but good spaces that can be made private - and set aside for a large group of people. There's a great garden with heated covered space for smokers, and on Saturday 24th there will be a DJ and stuff happening already. We do weddings often so catering isn't a problem at all.

Yours

Mark
