Right, I need to change from T-Mobile because the reception on Brixton Hill, specifically Blenheim gardens is crap.

I was going to change to Orange as the reception is excellent (it even picks up calls in basements) but now I'm strongly toying with the idea of getting an iPhone. Trouble is it's only available on O2 and i don't know anyone with an O2 phone and I obviously don't want one if the reception in the area is as crap as T-Mobile or Vodafone.

Anyone on 02 that lives on the Hill? What's the reception like?

Thanks for your help.

I'm Virgin. They're even worse.

O'm sure I have some O2 Sim Cards though

Vodafone have always had the best reception of all the networks I've tried. Orange are pretty good too, but you won't be able to get your expensive shiny iPhone with them.

Orange here. My mate has an O2 permanently glued to his ear and he's never moaned about the reception but that's not really a full recommendation.

I live up near Holmewood Road, O2 reception is excellent. As it is anywhere I have been in the area.

Did you keep losing reception last week for hours on end?

Their network was down, but I had the same problem for a few days in a row

I live on Brixton Hill. I used to be with T-Mobile - reception was rubbish!!! I'm now with O2 and have great reception. :)

I live in what I understand is the only blackspot for Orange in the whole of London. How unlucky is that? :(

I've never had any reception troubles with my old O2 phone though. I don't live on Brixton Hill but go through there regularly and I'm sure I must have been on the phone on occasion, and have not noticed any problems with the service.

Clapham North is the other Orange blackspot ;)

Flatmate and g/f both on Orange used to fucking hate it there.

I think Virgin and T-Mobile use the same network. And it's pants

I use an O2 phone and live very close to Blenheim Gdns. Crystal clear all the time with my current phone, a battered three year old Nokia, but the phone I had before (an ancient Samsung) sometimes struggled to get a signal.

they do. Apparently Virgin piggy-back off T Mobile and therefore T Mobile customers get priority - so I've heard

thats not true - due to the limits imposed on mobile networks virgin had to piggy back off someone else - they chose t-mobile (stupidly), t-m customers dont get priority on the cells but as virgin dont control the hardware (masts and stuff) they are at the mercy of t-m to fix stuff that goes wrong.

so their customer service is not as good, but once you're on a cell you'll only get booted off for an emergency call, not a t-m customer.

It's got a great colour screen and good internet connection so you can play slot machines on the internet casinos without stepping into a pub.
That's all you need to know about them.

I have no reception from Orange on ground floor in Sudbourne Rd off brixton Hill. Everywhere else in world is fine. Weird.

Orange has poor coverage around Brixton and poor penetration into buildings. They need more masts and more powerful signals.

weird...my mate can get an Orange signal in a basement in Blenheim Gardens

I'm going to find someone with an O2 phone and drag them to that basement!

Well done Minnie - it was all a ploy and the thread title should have been "Any Ladies On Brixton Hill Fancy Some Sex Games In A Basement That I Can Film On My Phone And Then Post It on the Naked Urbanites Threads ?"

I'm on Orange and on Brixton Hill - and can only get reception if I press my nose right against the windows when making/receiving a phone call. :D

Arse!

So what's the BEST operator for reception on Brixton Hill then?

And is there any such thing as a reception-boosing walkie-talkie style phone?

I'm on the Hill, have O2 and never have problems. I've used it at the Windmill too :)

I'm surprised as they work perfectly on Blenheim Gardens whereas T-Mobile and Vodafone struggle. Must be some weird shit going on in the air round Brixton Hill.

Following on from Brainaddict says, it looks like we have an overall winner in O2...let's all get iphones!!!

I am a BIG fan of O2 service and live in Brixton.

Right now I have 5 bars of signal and pretty much always do.
