Anyone nearby? There's 'nuff dark smoke in the air around Herne Hill.
maybe it's the fireworks.
Do you see colourful lights in the sky and big noises going weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, pop, bang, crackle?
Define "behind" - are you at the back of the Barrier Block ed - would the lido side be the "front" of the park to you?
maybe it's the fireworks.
Do you see colourful lights in the sky and big noises going weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, pop, bang, crackle?Er, no. It's a big fire. With black smoke.
My contact on Norwood Road, v near the park can't see anything...maybe it's more over the Tulse Hill side?

Judging by those photos, and a quick look at gmaps, I'd say tulse hill, at the norwood road junction ish.
Could be this place - looks like a recyling depot.

isnt' that in the direction of the waste / park rubbish dump by the converted flats / print works near Norwood and Croxted.
Hmmm, I saw a similar plume of smoke in that approximate direction getting on for oh! around a month ago now.

Yep. Was on the bus when this happened. The police closed off all the roads around it but it seemed to be under control.

Snap - had to cycle all over the shop - I usually come straight through West Norwood. Met a very dishy copper on traffic re-routing duties though. Wouldn't have minded him taking down my particulars... wink wink nudge nudge.... ;) :D

Apparently it was some kid throwing a firework into the petrol station
I left West Norwood Station at 5pm and didn't get home until 6pm due to Norwood Road being closed off - usually takes about 10-15mins tops.
Could be worse though - apparently 300 people have been evacuated from their homes!

What a MORON!
Apparently a gas cylinder exploded in the garage on Norwood Road, as others have suggested.
It took me an hour to get halfway up Leigham Court Road!
The police said it was the tyre garage just behind the Texaco garage.
The police moved people within something like a 200m radius of the fire because there was gas cylinders that could have exploded, I stayed put..Its all clear now..
